there were a HUGE number of callbacks in this ep to the early markers in the Buck/Eddie relationship, from the defusing of the bomb to Eddie shirtless in the locker room to this, and the contrasts are never more clear than they are when you see Buck's reaction to Eddie's display of competence on a call:

And it's not just because of the vastly different places they are in their relationship between those two points, but because in the first one Eddie is displaying clinical, scientific competence he learned on the battlefield, while in the second he's displaying empathetc, compassionate competence he learned by working to heal his own trauma. The first guy is someone Buck realizes he could come to respect. The second? That's a guy you could fall in love with.
