resuming kushiel’s dart, I don’t love joscelin as a love interest/how that develops but his introduction is so funny
I have a lot of issues with how the intrigue is handled this time around, especially knowing how it turns out. I think alcuin discovering who killed isabel l’envers instead of phedre is a pretty critical misstep. I really think that she, and the reader, are always kept as distant from the intrigue as possible to distract from how flimsy it is
this encapsulates the problem with this book lmao. I’m with joscelin on this one!

This is actually the one story where I actually love the antagonist telling their plans to the protagonist. It makes a lot of sense in the context of Melisande, and it really emotionally resonates.
