In 1993, Nintendo of Japan published an official Star Fox guidebook that contained the game's little-known original backstory, along with:

• Two unique characters that never appeared in anything else • Original illustrations by Benimaru Itoh, whose Star Fox and Metroid comic serializations appeared in Nintendo Power • A canon that was later scrapped with the series reboot of Star Fox 64

LEGEND OF ZELDA C-C-C-CONTEST TIME!!!

I have three Zelda developer interviews about the making of Majora's Mask, the making of the Oracle series, and the making of The Wind Waker. I'm holding a contest for people to choose which set of interviews they want me to translate.

The votes go towards supporting my work, so if you've ever wanted to show appreciation for Hyrule Historia or any of the other translations on my website but needed a little incentive, this is it.

You have until 11:00 pm PST on Friday, August 24th, 2012 to cast your vote, and I'll announce the winner the next day.

Bonus: Cast 5 votes or more and get your name or username translated into Japanese!

Bonus x2: Cast 10 votes or more and get a short sentence translated into Japanese! (Great for forum sigs, Tumblr profiles, secret messages, etc.)

You can read the rules of the contest and vote by clicking here!

You may be a Nintendo fan, but are you familiar with the following piece of Nintendo's history? In the newly translated article, The Short-Lived Famicom Disk System, we discuss:

• Why Nintendo, for a short time, offered its games on floppy disks
• Why the company reverted to cartridges for later systems like the SNES
• Nintendo's early DRM

Ever wonder about how your favorite SNES game was made?

There were a variety of ideas that didn’t make it into the game. Using the lantern on a grassy area to cause an endlessly expanding fire, for example. And digging a ditch with the shovel or bombing the swamp breakwater to cause water to rush into the hole. Work on these was in progress. If we’d had another 6 months, we might have been able to make them a reality. - Shigeru Miyamoto
