I’ve launched a small two-week campaign as part of Kickstarter’s Make/100 initiative, to help kickstart the year of making comics.

The special limited edition item that this campaign will make? A special, 100-piece only limited edition hard enamel pin of queer WOC superhero and Pride powerhouse, Muscle Mary! Designed by Pride artist, Hector Barros.

You can get yourself one of these limited edition pins, digital copies of the first issues, or even the full hardcover collected edition now, via the Kickstarter campaign now!

It’s Black History Month, so thought I’d post these two gorgeous ladies from The Pride.

Muscle Mary a.k.a. Queen Sapphire was one of the first characters I came up with for The Pride. I wanted this kind of Warrior Woman archetype character (not necessarily Wonder Woman, as technically WW was never meant to be that warrior woman type, but that’s a whole long story I could get into) and have her be this strong, statuesque, built, beautiful woman of color and just be totally bad ass. I hope we managed that in The Pride.

Should volume 2 come about, I have lots of plans for MM, exploring more of her nature as a leader, as well as her relationships, and her history.

From the very beginning it was important to me to include a drag queen character, as they are such a huge part of the visible queer life. And, really, the LGBTQ+ history of fighting for equal rights.

RuPaul’s Drag Race and Marsha P. Johnson were inspirations, and going forward, I want to continue showing Angel off as that caring if hard edged character.

Queer heroes banner for Queer Comics run by Audrey Redpath

These are not the only queer heroes from mainstream comic publishers but we chose our favs, It was a hard pic so I might eventually make more to switch it and maybe ad non mainstream heroes as soon as we can identify them.

Definitely wanna draw more chars from “The Pride” and Deadpools yeah!

Regarding queer comics, there’s the Oath Anthology currently up on kickstarter! Dont miss out! It’s such a great book!

It is really important that you be one of the few to get a hand on this super limited print! There are less than 100 available now, and it's not just so you can get your hands on this gorgeous team art by the incredible Magnus: Robot Fighter artist, csmithart; but also, every penny raised from the sale of this incredible print is going straight into paying off production costs on the last couple of issues of The Pride so that I can get the new issues out to you ASAP.

I cannot keep doing this series without your help, so please, treat yourself to some great art (and comics too, remember!) and help this LGBT superhero comic series keep coming out to you all!

There'll be more prints by some amazing artists who wanted to help coming up too, but you don't want to miss out on any of them. And hell, these will be rare examples of the artists art, so can only become greater in value in time :P

So come on, help a heartfelt LGBT project AND get some awesome artwork to brighten up your walls and grab one today!

Okay, so here comes the big heartfelt post again:

Sadly, no one is buying it :(

I've been pushing this a lot this week not just because it's brand new, out this past Wednesday, no one has seen it before and filled with brand new stories (four of them to be exact).

It is also the issue of any Pride book I am most proud of to date.

That's why I slapped the recommendation by the delightful and legendary gailsimone on the top of the gorgeous cover by wscottforbes.

It contains the first Pride story written by another writer, which feels amazing seeing someone else take your baby and run with it and having it turn out so perfectly too. It contains two whole stories focusing on the ladies of The Pride. It contains our first story with art form a female comic creator. It's involving the most diverse cast of characters AND the most diverse creative team we've had to date.

It's the most professional comic we have made so far. It looks gorgeous, and I've only seen it in digital comic format (as I can't afford to get it printed yet). It is the most incredible issue yet!

And still, I've only sold four copies.

There's another reason I want this comic to do well, aside from being so damn proud of it.

I cannot make the next issue of The Pride, issue 4, which is all drawn, until I have paid off up-to-date the creative team and printers for TPA#2 and TP#3. It would be unfair of me to expect people to continue to work on the project otherwise.

Moreover, I have so many aspirations. I want to make more Pride! I have huge ideas for the series, some which will really mix things up. I want to make more comics in general! And I've also been offered the opportunity to head out to SDCC! (hitting 30 this year, it would mean SO much for me to go out to my dream place, San Diego Comic Con on such a big year).

But all of this I can't do if the comics aren't selling.

It's frustrating. On The Pride Facebook Page, there are 1,124 Likes. If every single one of them bought a copy of The Pride Adventures#2, for the paltry sum of just £1.50 each, I'd have enough to pay off this comic and even some left over for the next one. I'd have enough money spare from my day job that I'd be able to actually get me out to SDCC.

It's a new comic, and it's not part of the old Indiegogo preorder, so literally no one has read this yet and the only way they are going to is to head over to the store and buy a copy. And I really want to show of the incredible work that PJ Montgomery, benwilsonham, Dani Abram, Christian Wildgoose, Mike Stock, denismedri, jdmakescomics and wscottforbes have done.

So please, every little helps.

Show your support actively. RT. Reblog. Share. Like. But also make Original Posts about the comic and why you buy them and why you support it, you have no idea how much it helps.

But also really show your support for me, the comic and LGBT and diversity in comics in general by buying copies. Remember, the Big Two will only take notice of the kind of comics you want to see if you show them with your hard-earned cash.

Help us make a change, and support new creators in comics.

Sapphire from “The Pride”.

colors by me.

I haven’t read The Pride yet, but I really like some of the designs, and I thought this one would be a good warm-up. And by warm-up, I mean the kind that takes you four hours and then you don’t really feel like doing much. Fuck.

HOLY CRAP! This is superb and totally amazing! Loving your colors! And thanks for giving the book a mention too!

Just...wow!

Would it be cool to add this to our fan art section on the Facebook page?

Two of the four short stories in The Pride Adventures #2 focus on our female characters. In fact, one includes an army of female superheroes, and the other has our first female artist working on the series, the super talented Dani Abram!

This issue will probably be coming out a LOT sooner than expected at this rate, so keep your eyes peeled.

The Pride #2

Art by Gavin Mitchell (Stiffs, Aces Weekly's Santa vs. the Nazis), Joe Glass and Cory Smith (Aspen's Legends of the Shadow Clan, Fathom, and Dynamite's Magnus: Robot Fighter)

The team is now formed! But when a literal trial by fire pops up, will they be ready? Moreover, will the world be ready? And just what is the villainous Reverend up to?

The Pride #2 by Joe Glass, Gavin Mitchell, Kris Carter and Mike Stock, and two back-up stories drawn by Joe Glass and Cory Smith, featuring superhero drag queen Angel and Queen of the Sapphons, Muscle Mary!

Why is everyone an otter nowadays what is an otter and what’s the difference between an otter and a cub

Many of the characters of The Pride (BUY HERE) are named after gay sub-groups like Bear, Twink, Wolf etc etc.I've often wondered if I should do a character called Otter.

Especially as otters are kinda my ideal kind of men lol.

But I wonder if it's maybe not exactly a 'puts fear into the hearts of the villainous' kinda superhero name.

Just felt like posting this Muscle Mary by Kris Anka again. Because it is awesome!

I don't have an awful lot of new art to show in a bit, at least nothing that wouldn't be too spoilery, but hopefully there'll be a lot more soon.

Muscle Mary is such a fun character to write. I sort of approach her as a fun mix of Wonder Woman and Thor, with a bit of 'fish out of water' syndrome thrown in. Plus, she's a beautiful, powerful lesbian woman, who is caring, nurturing as well as tough and badass when needed. One of my favourite characters? I can't say, because frankly, they are ALL my favourite characters in The Pride!

You can follow The Pride on Facebook, or on twitter, or check out the website. And you can order copies of the comic online at the store!

(P.S. Issue 1 print edition is sold out, but looking to restock very soon, but digital copies of that issue are always available)
