Amaya watches over Negan for a moment while Siddiq takes a break from the infirmary, Negan looks upon her as she works and manages to croak out a “Happy birthday…” She looks at him confused, asking how he knew it was her birthday. He just gives a tired smirk. ”6. 12. 1991” The D.O.B he read on the hospital wristband a year ago on the day he found his wife reanimated. Amaya stares at him, completely bewildered. Before she can question further, Siddiq returns and urges her to head back out and enjoy her day.

Back in the trailer, Negan shares some of his philosophies with Amaya. He explains that everyone has weaknesses and how, before he took over, the Sanctuary was full of weak people; their previous leader allowed people to be weak and it was Negan who made them strong. Amaya continues to ridicule his way of thinking, provoking him with how he makes others suffer to make him feel better about himself, about how he’s a heartless and evil man.

Negans last straw is when Amaya comments about how unloveable he is and how he literally had to force women to be his wives. A infuriated Negan fights back, swinging his bat Amayas way. Amaya dodges his swing and nocks him to the ground before fleeing into a nearby room, slamming the door shut and locking it behind her. negan sighs frustratedly, now angry at himself for swinging Lucille at his possible daughter. Something he had planned to never do to her. A walker suddenly punches through the trailer's wall. Negan bashes its head in with Lucille and sombrely tells Amaya it's time to go.

Negan hauls the dead walker into the trailer and urges Amaya to escape with him, saying their odds of getting to the Sanctuary are much higher if they work together. Amaya stubbornly refuses to work with him, especially after his outburst.

Negan stands by the locked door and, with a shaky sigh, tells Amaya that, before the fall, he had a beautiful wife who he cheated on while she was sick. He quietly and reflectively reveals to her that, at the beginning of the apocalypse, he found out that his wife had a kid without him knowing, giving it away thanks to all of his wrongdoings towards her. He admits that he is in-fact weak, that his weakness was how he failed the two most important girls in his life and that he’d never, ever live that down. Amaya Cautiously but sympathetically opens the door. The story of his long lost daughter melting her anger and spite towards him.

Later, Daryl stands outside of Deaana’s party, he stares at the lively house as he internally fights between knowing he should make an effort, but feeling way too uncomfortable and extremely out of place around the people who had been protected within Alexandria’s walls. He is awoken from his thoughts by a gentle, sweet voice in which asks him if he’s okay. His eyes land upon an angelic and gorgeous woman, Amaya. He is stunned by how beautiful she is when not covered in the rags and remnants of the apocalyptic world. It’s in this moment he realises just how attractive she is and the way that makes him feel about her honestly frightens him.

Amaya notices him staring and gets insecure. She Babbles on about how Deanna had introduced her to these girls and that they were so kind and wanting to dress her up. That with being a nurse now and everything, she thought the party would be a good opportunity to meet her new patients and that she wanted to make a good impression… “ You look beautiful.” He cuts her off and the compliment catches her off guard. She blushes softly at his words and just simply smiles as the two stare at each other for a moment. Finally, Amaya asks if he’s going to go inside. He stares between her and the party for second before shaking his head. “Nah,” Although disappointed, Amaya continues to smile. “I’ll see you later then?” “Mhm.” He nods at her and watches as she walks up the porch and into the party.
