For a Harry Potter blog you seem to hate Rowling a lot
real fucking talk, if you’re one of the people out there saying it’s the readers fault for not “getting the clues” or “picking up on the hints” that a character is gay in a series (and i’m pointedly looking at every single fucking person in the harry potter fandom sticking up for jkr in this way) you can fuck off right now. block me your damn self.
bottom line is that i shouldn’t have to BE looking for those clues. i shouldn’t have to be sitting here waiting for some HINTS that a character is gay. there should be explicit gay characters in series and that’s THAT. and an author saying a character is gay AFTER the series has ended and then seemingly throwing that away when it’s not convenient for publicity anymore is really fucking shitty.
don’t come at me with your “here’s all the clues you might have missed” or whatever fucking lists y’all make, they’re pathetic and pandering. jkr fucked up. if i didn’t read dumbledore as gay, that’s not MY fault. if she wanted him to be gay, she should’ve done so. end of story. all was mother fucking well.
jk rowling uses her power over her audience to get away with literally anything and knows she can, no matter how many people speak out against it she will always have the stronger influence over people and this franchise even if she supports an abuser and i’m so disgusted
jk rowling built her fortune from the stories of an abuse survivor. now she has chosen to keep an abuser in her franchise purely because he is a big name actor and will make her even more money. do not support fantastic beasts.
Not going to lie, J.K. Rowling raving and gushing about Johnny Depp being in the Harry Potter franchise and how he’s a good addition to the series has made me lose some respect for her. Johnny Depp, an abuser, is in the same franchise about an abused child that lived in the cupboard under the stairs for YEARS, was tormented by his family, underfed as punishment, and so on. Disgusting if you think about it. You would think that J.K. would feel the same way as well, but I’m thinking she sees Johnny Depp as more of a cash cow more than anything else. Defending an abuser when your whole entire franchise was made based on a story about an abused child and how he not only escaped his abusers but became his own hero and the hero of the muggle/wizarding world is kind of baffling/ shady.
Say what you will about how Harry Potter increases in complexity and darkness as it progresses but I think JKR sets the tone of the series pretty well when she has Dumbledore play ding-dong-ditch with a baby in the first chapter
