I just wish I had someone who cared about me, friends or a lover. I’m thankful for my parents for still loving me, sometimes they’re not the best and I am not either but I love them a lot and they never left me.. they’re the only thing I have in my life rn.

A small list of random ass sites I’ve found useful when writing:

  • Fragrantica: perfume enthusiast site that has a long list of scents. v helpful when you’re writing your guilty pleasure abo fics
  • Just One Cookbook: recipe site that centers on Japanese cuisine. Lots of different recipes to browse, plenty of inspiration so you’re not just “ramen and sushi”
  • This comparing heights page: gives you a visual on height differences between characters
  • A page on the colors of bruises+healing stages: well just that. there you go. describe your bruises properly
  • McCormick Science Institute: yes this is a real thing. the site shows off research on spices and gives the history on them. be historically accurate or just indulge in mindless fascination. boost your restaurant au with it
  • A Glossary of Astronomy Terms: to pepper in that sweet terminology for your astrophysics major college au needs

Adding to this since I’m working on a shifter au one-shot:

More:

  • Cocktail Flow: a site with a variety of cocktails that’s pretty easy to navigate and offers photos of the drinks. You can sort by themes, strengths, type and base. My only real annoyance with this site is that the drinks are sometimes sorted into ~masculine~ and ~feminine~ but ehhhh. It’s great otherwise.
  • Tie-A-Tie: a site centered around ties, obviously. I stumbled upon it while researching tie fabrics but there’s a lot more to look at. It offers insight into dress code for events, tells you how to tie your ties, and has a section on the often forgotten about tie accessories

“Lesbian subcultures of the era responded in their own unique ways to Hollywood cinema. Some working-class lesbians expressed their sexual identity by adopting either butch or femme personas, rigid roles that in some way parodied the very structure of heterosexuality. They often latched on to films and figures that spoke to those constructs. For example, Julie Harris’s tomboy in The Member of the Wedding (1952) and Joan Crawford’s butch gunslinger in Johnny Guitar (1954) became important lesbian icons. The love/hate relationship between Crawford and Mercedes McCambridge in Johnny Guitar, a rare female western, also fueled lesbian fandoms, as did James Dean. Apparently Dean’s rumored bisexuality and his combination of both “tough” and “soft” masculine characteristics made him a role model for “baby butch” lesbians.

Another key butch image of the 1950s was Doris Day as the title character in Calamity Jane (1953). Jane wears buckskin breeches, talks in a low raspy drawl, and repeatedly challenges any man to try to outdo her. The film plays with all sorts of gender turmoil: Wild Bill Hickok dressed up as a squaw at one point, and a male character named Francis is assumed to be female named Frances. Perhaps most memorably, the butch Jane and the femme Katie become roomates and move in together. Their duet about interior decorating, “A Woman’s Touch,” certainly had extra meaning for lesbian audiences of the era. Jane’s anthem “Secret Love” also became a huge hit in lesbian and gay bars because of its obvious ties to life in the closet.“

Trying to find the perfect name for a character, but you only have a vague idea of what you want, like “he feels like a 2-syllable kind of guy” or “It need a hard consonant at the end.”

May I recommend nameberry.com? I’ve sung its praises before, but you can search for specific lists of like “three syllable girls names” or “names ending in a.” You can also input names with a similar vibe to what you want and it’ll give you suggestions.

I have been looking for this site since I first started plotting out my novel, god bless you

I also like behindthename.com there you can filter too!

I feel like Marie Kondo should be added to the trifecta of public figures like Mr. Rogers and Bob Ross that we collectively consider kindly

like, they don’t know us personally or anything, but you know they want you to succeed, improve, and live your best lives

people just gently trying to guide us into treating others well, and being kind to ourselves, and tidying up

A lot of the “”discourse”“ around her is just barely subverted racism. People who don’t like her often listen to “minimalist” magazines that actually do tell you to live off one one t-shirt and a potted cactus.

The pantheon so far:

Bob Ross - Love yourself even with your mistakes!

Mister Rogers - Love your neighbor!

Marie Kondo - Love the place around you!

Stefán Karl Stefánsson  - Take care of yourself!

Steve Irwin - Be kind to animals!

So to sum up:

Bob Ross - Love yourself even with your mistakes!

Mr. Rogers - Love your neighbor!

Marie Kondo - Love the place around you!

Stefán Karl Stefánsson - Take care of yourself!

Steve Irwin - Take care of animals!

LeVar Burton - Love your mind/imagination!

Robin Williams - Love to laugh and spread laughter!

Bill Nye - Be curious! Never stop asking questions!

Anyone else to be added?

… can this be a religion ???

It already is, after a fashion. Ancestor worship (they need not be your ancestors) is one of the most widely practiced forms of spiritual ritual, both historically and presently.

Necromancy is central to my spirituality. That is, simply any magic or spiritual practice which involves communicating with the souls of the dead. Including ancestor worship.

I maintain an ancestor altar, whereupon I keep momento mori, objects which are reminders of the dead, for loved ones who have passed away, whether they are actually relatives of mine or not. But I also acknowledge and work with the honored dead who I never knew in life.

Ancestor worship is not limited to your loved ones or your family line, but any great person of the past whose guidance you seek or whose traits you wish to emulate.

The Catholic veneration of saints is a good mainstream Western example. That’s a form of ancestor worship.

In my Hellenic tradition there are holidays dedicated to the heroes of Greek mythology. One might make prayers and offerings to Heracles for strength or Achilles when going into conflict

I often ask my grandparents for advise.

The fact that Mr Rogers is more recently passed and not associated with a specific religious tradition does not preclude you from doing a little light necromancy and asking him for help in living the principles of compassion and empathy which he embodied in life.

A great way to honor those who have passed and the characteristics you wish to emulate in your craft and in life

I feel the cast of queer eye should be added to the list, or at the very least JVN.

Republicans think saving $250 a month, having no deductible, and no copay is a bad thing.

More importantly, no bankruptcies.

And actually, you're not just saving $250/month; taxes are assessed annually, so if your tax burden due to healthcare for all is ONLY $750, that's for the full year! You'll be saving $11,250 BEFORE any copay.

I'm tired of this whole personal vs game conversation, who you are as a person affects how you play and your relationships with other players. Jury management is a very important part of winning and if you mistreat people it's gonna make people dislike you and you're not gonna get their vote and quite frankly you shouldn't.

Elaine reminds me soo much of my sister who passed away when I was 19, I probably would have cried if she had left. My survivor sister is safe for now y'all :)

You know what’s wild? Remembering that children hear things for the first time without context and are literally like, “What?”

I just said “See you later, alligator” to a four-year-old and I think it was the first time they had ever heard that.  They froze in their tracks, looked at me completely bewildered then replied, “See you later, chicken” and kept walking.

One time when I was little my mom called me "small fry" and I thought it was an insult so I called her a big hamburger. 😆
