I've always been obsessed with the way that certain painters use color. Van Gogh, one of my favorite artists, literally saw the world in yellow. Some experts say that a medication he took for his epilepsy caused him to see a saffron tinge around everything. Others think that his "yellow period" was simply a reaction to moving to a sunnier climate. Regardless of the reason , his paintings “The Sower” and “Wheatfield with Setting Sun,” elevate my spirit and inspire the way that I look at certain scenes.
I've been in my personal "yellow period" for years now. First, I was drawn to Hoi An's bright historical buildings. Now, I find myself at peace, like Van Gogh, in fields of golden reeds. Vietnam's colors are a constant source of passion.
