Yaay, it’s finally done! :D As promised, here is a tutorial for my weekly spreads. You seemed to really like the monthly one, I got so much positive feedback on it! I’m really, really glad you liked it, I did not think ut would get much attention, since I did it this way just for fun, but you guys said that it was easy to follow, and actually informative! :D I love making these tutorials, so if you have any other suggestion, I will be happy to make some more! :)

The previous tutorial can be found here!

Hey! I am really late with this, but I though that some of you might like to see how I make my monthly spreads. I did this sort of “infographics” (??? am I even allowed to call this thing infographics??) and even though it looks like this, I had so much fun making it :D. I really don’t know whether this is helpful or not, I tried. In case you’d like to see more tutorials (and hopefully better ones) in the future, let me know please? And thanks if you read it till the end, it’s so long :D

(I totally ran out of space for pictures at the end lol)

Hello friends!! So to celebrate 6k+ followers, I promised you all that I would finally get onto doing a bullet journal system post- and a mini-tour of my own bullet journal.

What is the bullet journal system?

The bullet journal system is a planning system designed for rapid logging tasks using ‘bullets’ and ‘collections’ to organise your day to day life. It can be used by anyone, for students, for professionals and even for the everyday person. It was designed by Ryder Carroll. I suggest watching the original bullet journal videos before proceeding with your system to get down to basics.

It can be customized as minimally or as decoratively as you would like- it’s your adaption of the system that matters. Ryder Carroll even stated that “If you look forward to coming back to your book and feel like it’s your ally, then you’re doing it right.” and praised both simple journals and embellished ones too. Each bullet journal system is unique from one another. As long as you are following the skeleton of the original system and enjoying your own journal and achieving your goals- you’re doing everything right. There is no set rules of aesthetics- so whether your bujo is simple or not, as long as you’re enjoying yourself then you’re a-okay!

Do I need x or y skills/stationery to have a successful bullet journal?

No not at all. You don’t need a Leuchtturm1917, a Moleskine, a Rhodia, a Hobonichi or a fancy notebook. A simple notebook would work too. You don’t need fancy pens, fine liners, markers, coloured pencils to pretty up your system too.  You only need a pen. One of my close friends uses her bullet journal with just her pen and a small A6 notebook she found from the local book store. There are no specifications of what size, style or paper you have to have with a bullet journal! You don’t need washi tape to decorate your journal, but if you want to- go for it!

You don’t need to have the most perfect handwriting or fancy lettering skills or drawing skills. Your journal doesn’t need to be artistic if that doesn’t fit into your lifestyle. Some people prefer to have distinguished headers so they can easily scan through a page and find what they need.  Some people don’t have the time to make their pages pretty- to fit into the “studyblr aesthetic”. Some people can’t afford buy fancy stationery and notebooks: and that’s totally fine.

Why the bullet journal system?

It’s not for everyone! And that’s alright. But the reason why the bullet journal system is so popular is because it’s so customizable and can be personalized. People use this for journaling, for tracking every day habits and for writing notes and many other reasons. It’s such a simple system and can be started right now in any notebook you have.

You don’t need fancy notebooks or special supplies to start your bullet journal. You only need a pen and a notebook so you can get started. However, some people don’t like having to create titles for their pages and that’s fine- you can also bullet journal in a planner system too! But you can discontinue it any time you want and go back to regular planning if you wish.

What’s in a bullet journal?

Every bullet journal needs the basics. Every bullet journal should follow at least some elements of this skeleton.

  • An Index - A compiled list of your pages for future reference.
  • A Key - A compilation of your bullets for your system. Bullet points distinguish the difference between a task, it being completed or moved. They also distinguish whether or not it’s an event too.
  • Future Log - A list of future events for the upcoming months; usually for the next three months or for next year.
  • Monthly Log - Where you transfer events from your future log, an overview of the current month’s tasks, events and projects.
  • Daily Log - Daily tasks which are rapidly listed through the day. Notes are usually written under the current day. If a task isn’t finished in one day, it can be easily transferred to the next page using a 'moved task’ bullet.
  • Collections - Collections are lists of whatever you wrote down in your 'notes’ during a week. Books you have read, shows you watched, things you want to collect? Put it in a collection.

There are so many different adaptions of the bullet journal system!

My Adaptation of the Bullet Journal System

My bullet journal has been altered slightly from Ryder Carroll’s and embellished for my personal enjoyment. It’s been tweaked and changed many times and designed for what I need to track! I like to theme my weeks and pages to one colour to keep things simple – sans the colour coding I have for specifics like Work or Uni. It’s simple yet decorative at the same time and it’s perfect for me. I use a Leuchtturm1917 grid notebook, for reference.

This is how I shaped my bullet journal to be mine!

{How To Start A Digital Bullet Journal}

Before I start explaining how to write a digital bujo. I have to say thank you to the lovely @sushi-studies because of you I get to know GoodNotes so I can start writing xoxo

☞Tools

I’m using iPad Pro 9.7-inch and Apple Pencil. I never used other brand’s stylus before so I’m sorry I can’t suggest or compare the stylus for you.

☞Apps

-GoodNotes 4

This is the app I’m using to write my bujo. The GoodNotes app is actually a simple note taking app. You can create lots of different notebooks for yourself. It has different kinds of style of papers that you can choose. It give you a feeling like you’re writing on a notebook but just a digital one. -Photoshop Mix -Procreate

☞Why I Love Digital Bujo

No need to bring lots of things in my bag anymore!!! Before I have my digital bujo, I need to bring lots of things in my bag (my bujo, pencil case, stickers, tapes…) Plus if I want to add some pictures on my bujo. I need to go find a printer to print it out first and then stick on. It just waste me lots of money and time on it. Lots of tree die, too. But after I go with digital, everything just perfect♡♡ Although the feeling of writing on the real paper and writing on a tablet is different. But I love it so far!

☞How I set my digital bujo

My setting is just like everyone else. For example, I start a monthly calendar to start a new month. Habit tracking and then weekly planner. My weekly planner change every time when I start a new week. I keep trying new setting when I see someone’s awesome post on tumblr! All the lovely posts give me lots of inspiration.

♛I guess that’s it! Not sure about what else do you guys want to know. And there’s nothing else I can think of to share with y'all right now.

If there’s anything you want to know, ask ask ask! I won’t bite :) Even if you’re too shy then just be one of my nonny ♡ xoxo

never has music moved me until now. min yoongi, a rapper who's been brought down time and time again b/c he's an ""idol rapper"", opened his heart to us, revealing from when he struggled financially with a drinking problem during his trainee days to his social anxiety/phobia and depression he struggled through for years. mixtapes are all about sampling from other songs and making new tracks out of it. but yoongi took it to a whole new level by producing almost EVERYTHING original without samples. and he still treats agust d as a mixtape and released it to his fans for free. thank you min yoongi. you deserve all the good attention you're getting.

starting a bullet journal, a guide by studypetals

hey everyone! it’s rhianne, or studypetals. i’ve gotten a lot of questions and concerns about how to start a bullet journal, so i decided to start a new one myself to show you how i set mine up!

GENERAL INFORMATION:

so what’s a bullet journal? well, it’s not an actual journal, per se, but rather a system of journaling! the “bullet” word comes from “bullet points,” the way tasks/events are jotted down in this journaling system. (source)

what is a bullet journal used for? a bullet journal can be used as a simple planner system, but it can also be a creative way to plan your daily/weekly tasks! some people even use it as a half-scrapbook/half-planner (like me!)

what’s the difference between a planner and a bullet journal? this is a great question i’ve gotten before. a planner already has the dates/decorated pages/etc. all you have to input into a planner is tasks and events. a bullet journal is a book of blank pages, so it allows more creative freedom than a planner does. if you aren’t patient enough for free-handing everything, stick to a regular planner. if you like having a unique journal/planner and like customizing your spreads, look into starting a bullet journal!

MY SETUP:

picture 1: material starter pack here’s what i use for my bullet journal (aside from the decorative things like washi tape, magazine cutouts, etc.)

  • moleskine notebook, regular, squared, soft cover
  • zebra mildliners
  • pilot g-2 pens
  • muji 0.35mm pens

picture 2: cover page i just have a cover page to catalogue what this journal has in it. you can always put anything you want on the cover page, like:

  • the semester you’re using it in
  • your name
  • “bullet journal” or “planner”
  • a simple quote
  • etc.

picture 3: index so for my first journal, i didn’t even use an index. it’s up to you whether you want to include one or not. if you use an index, remember to number the rest of the pages after it! you can either catalogue every page after you’re done with it, or only the pages you really want to reference.

picture 4 (left): legend this is super important, especially for a bullet journaling system! so in this particular system of journaling, each task has a bullet point next to it. the most regular one i’ve seen is a square, so that’s what i use. what the legend does is keep track of what each symbol means. of course, if you just want to fill the squares in after you complete a task, then you don’t need this. however, if you want more organization, then make up whatever symbols you need to for this part! there isn’t one concrete symbol system, so do what works for you!

picture 4 (right): testing stationery page i like seeing what each pen/highlighter writes like before i really use it, so why not make a page for testing them! what i do is write what type of stationery it is with the actual pen/highlighter so i don’t forget which stroke is which.

picture 5 (left): favorite washi page ahhhh one of my favorite pages. you can put your washi collection on this page, or just strips of the ones you like a lot! they can be as long or short as you want them to be.

picture 5 (right): youtube ideas! (or other filler pages) this isn’t for everyone, of course, but it’s one that i added! i just showed it to you guys since i wanted to show the washi tape page. anyways, there are a lot of cool pages you can add throughout your bullet journal, such as:

  • books to read/movies to watch/etc.
  • life goals
  • expenses
  • favorite quotes
  • moodboards
  • class schedule/information
  • recipes
  • AU ideas (for writers!)
  • favorite art pieces
  • favorite lyrics
  • etc.

picture 6: weekly spreads the big one! so this is what i primarily use my bullet journal for. step-by-step, this is how mine are created (but you can always make yours unique):

  1. make the title (“week #,” or something)
  2. write the days
  3. write the dates
  4. write down the tasks for each day
  5. make a section for something you have to do each day (the “essentials”)
  6. write down the extra sections (goals, important dates, quote of the week, habit trackers, etc.)
  7. decorate with washi tape, doodles, printed pictures, magazine cutouts, leaves, flowers, movie tickets, etc.

extra resources from me to you:

some bullet journal examples and blogs:

WHEW. that’s all i have for this topic (for now.) i hope any or all of this helps you guys out there wanting to start a bullet journal. if you want to make one, we’re gonna be in this together! have fun and remember the most important thing: it doesn’t have to be perfect. not all the pages are gonna be great, you’re gonna make mistakes, and some pages are just not gonna be what you wanted them to be, but that is 100% okay. just remember to have fun with it, and just.. start!

i recently started a new bullet journal in april and this time, i bought a squared notebook instead of a ruled notebook like my last one. with that, i ended up with a different type of layout that lots of you guys were asking about hehe. so here’s a post explaining my current 2016 set up!

journal

my bullet journal is a brandless squared journal that i found in a store nearby. it’s similar to the moleskine journals, but the pages are thicker and i haven’t noticed any bleeding that i’ve seen with some moleskines. overall, i’m really quite happy with it because it’s slim and easy to carry around.

monthly

i drew a monthly calendar that fit the entire spread instead of the single page calendar that i had before. it’s just a simple calendar with boxes large enough to fit whatever i need. i put things like test dates, important events, appointments, etc. i don’t really have a color scheme or anything for events; i just highlight the important ones that i absolutely cannot forget.

i used a fine sharpie pen (not the permanent marker) to draw the calendar, a black frixion ball slim to write in events so that they were erasable and adjustable, and zebra mildliners to highlight important/must-not-forget stuff.

daily

i found that it was really hard to schedule things in advance with a bullet journal, and that was one of the only things that really held my bullet journal back. this time, i divided the page up into thirds and pre-wrote the dates for the month. i write my tasks across and down to save space, and i haven’t had any problems with the space being too small. tbh it’s not really like a traditional bullet journal anymore, but i like the aspect of having spaces ahead of time that a planner has.

i also track the hours that i spend doing school assignments / studying to keep myself motivated every day (1 square = 1 hour). i like to keep my streak going and do at least something productive every day, even if it’s only for an hour. sometimes, i’ll forget to keep track though haha

color scheme

i pick one main color for every month. for example, march was green, april was purple, and may is blue. i use that color to write the title dates and write events on each day and mark off tasks with. it’s just easier to carry around one or two similar colors rather than having six different colors to color-code with. also, i have a tendency to forget color codes easily hahaha.

key

like i said, i have trouble remembering color codes and keys are no exception. i just simplified the entire key thing down to a few things. x means that the task is done, / means that the task is halfway complete, –> means that the task was moved to the next day, and ⦻ means that the task was cancelled. i don’t fill up the whole box in my bullet journal because it feels awkward to do so (i tend to write small). i just make the tiny mark next to the task.

to be completely honest, i don’t really follow my key. my bullet journal is mainly to help me remember the things that i have to do that day, and sometimes, i won’t even fill out the tasks. so even if a task is done, i’ll forget to cross it off hahahaha. i’m trying to fix that though lololol

misc

i have a page for fitness hours and volunteer hours on the page right after my monthly calendar. i’ll also have general boxes off to the sides of my daily pages for whatever reason there might be. i might also have little doodles and inspirational quotes drawn in the margins as well. i usually don’t really stick washi tape in my bullet journal bc i usually don’t have the time ;; however, i have sticky tabs on each monthly spread so that i can flip easily to it. it also separates out the months. there’s also a little ribbon bookmark in my journal that i place on the current day.

hope this helped and good luck! if you’d like to request a post, go here and if you’d like to see more helpful posts, go here!! thanks :)

HOW I: BULLET JOURNAL

Since secondary school, I never really used the planner provided by the school. Why? I have no idea. It’s just never really attracted me.  I have always been more drawn to making my own lists and it’s worked. Upon discovering the studyblr community, I also discovered the bullet journal. I’ve been using it since last year and I absolutely love it. This is how I set up mine!

Monthly Goals Page

The monthly goals page is something that I have started incorporating. I will write the month in the middle of the page and then draw out a few arrows. Those first few arrows are the goals that I wish to achieve or work towards that particular month.Things such as keeping on top of work. Then from those arrows, I will draw other arrows coming out of it. These will be things that I need to do in order to achieve that particular goal. Sticking with the example of keeping on top of work, I will draw arrows and write things such as “do homework on the day that it’s set” and “never leave things last minute”. Having a monthly goals page motivates me as I get to see, visually, my goals.

Monthly Overview

This is the page whereby I write down important events in that month and later on, one thing that I achieved that day. Monthly overview will let you look at what you have to do this month and what you have done when you look back at the end of the month. When there is no even scheduled in the monthly overview, I use it as a tool to see how productive I’ve been. So from the task page, I will write down which task I’ve completed on the monthly overview section. I also have a habit tracker on the monthly overview section. I’ll pick from three to five habits and make a tracker. This has helped me greatly as it has allowed me to create habits in my everyday life!

Task page

This is basically the lists of tasks that you need to complete in a day. I have a key for different types of tasks such as homework. Make sure that you don’t overload your tasks page as it will just cause you to become stressed. You can add doodles and other drawings to customise it however I just use a simple layout.
