Hallmark Exes FAQ!

in light of part 2 being out soon, I’ll be making a little separate FAQ post about them for some backstory info and so i don’t have to keep answering the same questions lol—so send in any questions you have and I’ll answer them in the FAQ!

before getting into the questions, however, I want to clarify something.

Levi and Xavier are my characters. this is my story. while it was prompted by another post—and I encourage everyone who wants to to write their own versions of the prompt!!—it is not a collaborative project. I’ve had multiple separate issues with people wanting to write their own part 2s, and while I really do appreciate that the story resonated so much and inspired people enough to want to add to it, actually doing so and posting it is rude, disrespectful, and a shitty thing to do.

to be clear, I’m not mad at or trying to target any of these people. I know there were no malicious intentions behind it, but my feelings about it remain the same.

I’m not a published author. nobody knows Levi and Xavier are my characters. if someone were to stumble across the original piece and a part 2 someone added without my consent, they’d have no way to know that that’s not canon. any additional info that person decides to include in their writing muddies the waters when I inevitably contradict it, because Levi and Xavier’s story is so much more fleshed out in my head than what I’ve shared on tumblr.

so I guess please just keep that in mind. please don’t hijack my story. it feels weird that I have to say this in the first place, but here we are.

and if you’re about to say something like “but jester, it’s a compliment, it's not that big of a deal! besides, it’s just a tumblr story, it’s not that serious!” I just want to say this: when a writer posts the first chapter of their book or fic on tumblr or ao3 or wattpad or wherever else, do you decide to take it upon yourself to write chapter 2 and post it as if that’s the continuation of the story? no, you wouldn’t, because that’s rude as fuck. this isn’t any different.

Have you not seen it? All the love? All the good? I know it’s hard to see sometimes, I know there’s pain everywhere. But look, there’s a child helping another up after a hard fall. Look, there’s someone giving their umbrella to a stranger. Look, there’s someone admiring the spring flowers. Look, there’s good, there’s good, there’s good. Look!!!!

I’ll never forget I once had to break the news to two women that their dog had cancer, and as they cried and hugged and asked me questions I said something about how I was grateful this pup had such a loving family to support her- only for these ladies to inform me one of them wasn’t actually an owner at all, she was just the other woman’s Uber driver…

So this driver tells me she’s literally never met the other lady in her life, but when this passenger started crying in the car with her dog because she was worried, this angel in the form of an Uber driver went off the clock, came inside the building, and waited over an hour in a busy emergency room with a complete stranger just so she would have someone there by her side in a scary situation. This woman even took notes about everything I said so the owner wouldn’t have to try and remember it all later.

I see plenty of stuff at my job that makes me tempted to lose my faith in humanity but all I do is remember that Uber driver and it comes roaring back to me just like that. Humans are so unbelievably good, man.

#on my drive home i drove past a bus stop and there was a group of like 10ish young kids (i’d guess aged 8-10) with their adult#waiting for the bus and they all held hands and did the wave whenever a car passed by#like. that’s the cutest shit i’ve ever seen#rb

Scars? Not body horror. Limb differences? Not body horror. Facial differences? Not body horror. Feeding tubes, colostomy bags, etc? Not body horror. Movement disorders? Not body horror. Visibly disabled people just existing is not horror.

#body horror is like. growing new bones that eventually break through your skin bloody and slick and then you turn and there are bony wings#protruding from your shoulderblades and they hurt but they’re part of you#and you try to hide them but you can’t#and you try to snap them off because you can’t show your face anywhere because you have Bloody Bone Wings#but that just hurts worse#and now you’ve broken yourself in a desperate desire to fit in and be normal but it doesn’t work you’re still bleeding and you still don’t#look quite right#and you start wondering if maybe the wings were never the problem in the first place#rb#but yeah the guy with burn scars across half his face is body horror. grow up get a life. touch grass

This would be funny in multiple ways. Imagining her in human form refusing to elaborate on why her jacket says that. Coffee break and a dog biscuit. Alternatively imagining her in full dog mode very determinedly going through the first aid kit with her nose and flinging the appropriate wipes and bandages at the nearest person with thumbs

This huge dog trots up to you and hands you a little pamphlet saying hello im your nurse today we'll be doing a diabetes screening and you're like oh cute gimmick I know that's a thing you can train service dogs to do. Then two days later your very much human nurse is talking to you like you've already met and you're like girl this is our first encounter what are you talking about
