If you like kaiju and mecha, read the first book in my MODERN CARAPACE series: O Bounty Of Thy Ribs. This 72-page graphic novel is the story of Esther, a park ranger who pilots the Tarantula Hawk, a prototype mecha, and uses it to protect desert-dwelling insectoid kaiju from poachers.
E.J Sue’s “Mechaforce” is one of the few “How to Draw” books I would point newbies looking to get into drawing robots to. It emphasises knowing the basics (Very difficult to draw a robot properly if you can’t use perspective) and fundamental shapes and even arm techniques, and gives a neat insight into how mechanical forms work in art.
These are just a few of the examples from the anatomy section of the book. It’s currently on sale on Amazon and worth checking out, though I will note it is not a “be all end all” resource, thankfully you can fill in your knowledge gaps elsewhere.
for all my art friends
Fav Lancer mech and why?
MY BABY SWEET BOY BLACKBEARD
LYARR HARR FIDDLE DEE DEE
Listen, I could give or take the game mechanics but I frankly just adore the design. It's plain, but INCREDIBLY effective. It really sells that "Hard industrious Sci fi" aesthetic. It's head has a very peculiar but simple shape that is really charming. The various tubes remind me of the fuselage that is on my parents farm. I could almost feel it.
The big fuckoff sword and Axe made of a Carbon alloy? Just fucking badass.
I love this guy.
Y'all managed to find a game of Lancer?
...okay so maybe I'm more of a hypothetical blackbeard pilot
