i wish to know more about the kung fu mina movie. context?

So I'm remembering this through the fog of an entire year, so I may be slightly off with the plot, BUT.

From what I recall, it's basically what would happen if you cut out the entire middle section of Dracula, after Mina sets sail to find Jonathan, and have Mina basically teleport directly to Dracula's castle for the end fight instead.

No suitors, no Lucy, no vampiric Mina. Just Mina and Van Helsing, the Brides, and a muscular bald man as Dracula. Oh, and Jonathan briefly.

Van Helsing teaches Mina how to do Kung Fu. Mina...influtrates Castle Dracula, I think, and Kung-fu fights the Brides. Jonathan pokes his head into frame and promptly dies.

I can't bring myself to be entirely awful to the film, because there was not a single frame of it where we didn't enjoy ourselves, it was obviously made on a small budget, and is 10/10 Halloween cheese. We found it on Amazon, I think. There's a prequel film with Lucy and (two) Suitors, the same Van Helsing actor but a different Mina.

A little collection of some of my latest pieces of work for @theholmwoodfoundation podcast. I'm genuinely so proud of the top two! I've been working harder this year to put backgrounds in my work, and I hope it's starting to pay off.

We're heading into our final two weeks on the Kickstarter for season one of this podcast, and if we don't make the money then we can't make the show. So please consider donating HERE if you can.

And listen to our pilot episode for free below!

Little Quincey pointing at the photo like. "Mum and Papa! Scold!" because of their expressions being similar to when they are Serious Face to him :P

Neither Jonny or Mina ever having the heart to go Full Scold Expression on poor Quincey. That's reserved for the Undead and people who refuse to take Mina seriously.

Imagining Van Helsing taking that photo like "Yes I think we can put a copy of this at the door. New ward off against fiends. Present company of fiend of the train not included."

100% here for this. The only fiend allowed on these premises is the Fiend of the Train. The Harkers have a collective Look about them that sends all other fiends running.

I see Mina has no scar, so it's post-Count-murder. Love it!

It is! They deserve some post-Count badassery. A photo to commemorate kicking vampirism in the shins.

A little Halloween painting of the Harkers, because they deserve one together! I love drawing vintage photographs.

I'm going to shill for myself here, but if you like the Harkers, please consider listening to the first episode of my partner's and my new horror-fiction podcast, The Holmwood Foundation. Starring the Harkers in a prominant role and very much in gothic love!

quick sketch of a scene for @theholmwoodfoundation pilot that our actor for Jeremy, Seán Carlsen, owned 100% with his voice work. It made us laugh on the day, it makes me laugh now. Poor, poor Jeremy.

Please go give us a listen, we have to be very very annoying about it for the next 30 days while we Kickstart the full season.

A quick painting I unfortunately don't have time to finish.

Bad ending Jonathan Harker, trapped in Dracula's castle, waiting for the Master to return home.

I have this notion that vampires retain a twisted aspect of their living loves and desires, but wrenched into the same position as their unending hunger. Jonathan will love Mina, regardless of who or what he is, and that love will remain to consume him when all else is gone.

Welcome to the Holmwood Foundation

Sanguis Vita Est

The Holmwood Foundation is a Found Footage Horror-Fiction Podcast created by Fio Trethewey @fiotrethewey (Big Finish: Gallifrey War Room, 18th Wall Productions) and Georgia Cook @georgiacooked (Big Finish: The Eleventh Doctor Chronicles, Gallifrey War Room, BBC Books, The Dracula Daily Sketch Collection). It is a modern day sequel to the gothic novel Dracula We are currently working on building interest while we record and create the pilot episode ahead of crowd funding in October.

What is the Holmwood Foundation about?

Our story follows Jeremy Larkin (Played by Sean Carlsen) and Maddie Townsend (Played by Rebecca Root), two co-workers at the mysterious Holmwood Foundation, as they are possessed by the ghosts of Jonathan and Mina Harker, and embark on a road trip across the country in an effort to achieve their ghost's wishes: to stop Dracula once and for all. This is a story about identity and self discovery, family loyalty and devotion, all wrapped around a nightmare of a road trip with a rejuvenating severed head, incredibly sincere Victorian ghosts, and an analogue recorder. (Content Warnings for blood, horror themes and possession)

When can we listen to The Holmwood Foundation?

We plan to release the pilot during the Kickstarter. However, once crowd funded, we hope to release the first season in Spring 2025. Follow for further updates as production progresses!

Foundation Interns! We have questions for our future listeners!

  1. What characters in the Holmwood Foundation are you most looking forward to getting to know? Why?
  2. When did you first discover Dracula?
  3. What is your favourite part of the book and why?
  1. My excitement for you all to meet our main crew is IMMENSE.
  2. I first got massively into Dracula at around the age of thirteen. Loved horror, loved vampires (did NOT love Twilight, despite being the right age for it), loved my boy Jonathan. Swam through the entire Hammer Horror adaptation/sequels series (still love Dracula AD 1972, it's actually one of the inspirations for the podcast), kind of dropped off it once my vampire craze died down. Picked it back up again in 2020, and was just so excited to see Dracula Daily and Re:Dracula sweep in the way it has.
  3. I love the opening segments in Dracula's castle. That creeping dread is still so wonderfully done, and not knowing for so long if Jonathan survives or not. But Jonny's declaration that he will follow Mina into undeath if he must? Ugh. Peak gothic romance. I love them.
