i keep on thinking: in the 80s Marius used to just stick a tv in akasha and enkils faces and keep it on mtv for some fucked up reason. TV is kinda de@d now so wtf would he even do now…Akasha is stuck watching ridiculousnesses reruns

Another book detail that feels insane in the remembering… absolute choice to embed Mother and Father in a Nam June Paik installation… it’s going to be Lestat’s five hour long confessional YouTube stream

(1/2) I've been reading VampChronicles since Jr. High (why those books were in our library I'll never know because holy shit they aren't for kids) and I've been a fan of Harris's novels since High School. But even if I wasn't a geek for both of those properties I'd still be excited, mainly because the Louis/Lestat relationship is so effing close to the Will/Hannibal one that I'm personally just going to headcanon those two in that show anyway.

(2/2) So yeah, I don't think the fandom would be gutted as it's just so close to what we love anyway that it would be easy to merge the two (especially with Fuller's aesthetic being lent to the show). This is also why I'm hyped for 'The Alienist' as it's so close to Hannibal that I can merge the two in my mind and have even more AU territory to play around with!

You said what I meant better than I did, I think, in terms of addressing @hannibalsbattlebot’s original worry. I wasn’t really able to explain it, but I just strongly feel if you’re fans of both, this gets you more excited for both, without taking enthusiasm away from Hannibal. Besides which, VC is still in very early development, and I would normally advise against counting eggs when they’re still at the non-greenlit, pilot draft script stage. XD; Look at all the drama Bryan Fuller’s shows have historically gone through.

I guess it might be discouraging for people who just aren’t into vampires in the least, but IMO it’ll just be one AU among many.

I’m just having some really negative thoughts that Vampire Chronicles will gut this fandom and someone needs to tell me that I’m wrong

I’m gonna chime in late here, as someone who has nearly as long a relationship with VampChron/AR as Bryan does: I don’t think this will damage the Hannibal fandom at all, because that Venn diagram overlap pre-dates Bryan Fuller altogether.

Let’s be real: VampChron is a peak 90s fandom, not least due to AR’s own chilling actions afterward, and because there hasn’t been an adaptation of the series since the Queen of the Damned movie in 2001. Anyone who is still excited by this news in a fannish context now, was into it either before or while AR went ham on fanworks (which is why you’re seeing so much anxiety about it - there are Fannibals who have seen some shit directly). And there is going to be almost no one who is actively in Hannibal fandom today, jumping up and down about a new VampChron TV series, who didn’t get into Hannibal in the first place because they were into the Harris novels/movies in the 90s and early 00s.

(Except me. XD; I’m the outlier, though I did watch SotL. And yeah, I’m kinda inviting ppl here to @ me along the lines of “I’m a Millennial who got into both on my own in 2009 bc I live under a rock,” but I think that doesn’t disprove my larger point.)

In short, this is a classic case of “Holy shit, two cakes!” For people who care at all, it was Two Cakes in the 90s, and it’s Two Cakes today, and the only angst is around whether AR will blow her top at crossover fic.
