Okay, someone needs to talk me out of the OTA Timeless AU that’s currently on screen in my head.
Because Oliver could be our historian and Dig could be the military badass (or vice versa really because POSSIBILITIES) and Felicity’s the pilot engineer and MOIRA IS ALREADY THERE and Oliver could work to get Thea back and Slade could be Garcia and Walter Connor and SOMEONE STOP ME.
WRITE THE THING. ::nods::
I feel like this is what will suck me into this show…
Oh wow, I’m super into this and how well it works. Especially Felicity getting that pilot/engineer shying away from dangerous stuff but slowly coming the real hero of the show as she steps up whenever it’s needed despite that all arc.
And I was iffy about Oliver as historian, but yes with trying to get Thea back, and the whole mess of hey, people’s fathers aren’t who they say they are (which also makes me think about Thea as the historian tbh bc remember her whole thing about studying art and how you could relate that into it and hey look your bio father is actually this creepy shady dude part of a secret organisation trying to get you to join him, i mean really).
Only thing is, Digg as the military badass could easily slip Lyla into the dead wife part and oh no please no.
I’m with you on Diggle and Lyla - I’d have to find another way of creating conflict for them (perhaps Rittenhouse tries to blackmail Diggle by threatening his family? Although Lyla is pretty badass so I’m not so sure how well that’d work for Rittenhouse).
My approach to AUs is that you adapt universes to the characters, rather than the other way around. So even though there are clear parallels between the two universes, not everything would have to be exactly the same. I wouldn’t want to shoehorn any of the characters into a place that wouldn’t make sense for them to go, you know what I mean?
And you know, I’m thinking maybe Nyssa as Agent Christopher? Or McKenna. I’d have to think about that.
Helena in the role of Emma, very shady Mothership pilot.
Hmm. I’d make Walter into Anthony (Felicity’s friend/mentor who joins Slade inexplicably) myself. Maybe Malcolm Merlyn in Mason’s role.
Jiya = Sara?
Except I don’t want to redeem Malcolm, I want to kill him, LOL. So maybe switch those positions? OOH, or Ivo could take Anthony’s place? Obscure Arrow characters FTW!
Plus, Connor’s role is friend/mentor to Rufus (not just CEO/Owner of Mason Industries), so Walter as mentor to Felicity would work better (especially since I don’t want to kill Walter). Although that begs the question: should I make it Queen Consolidated as the ship builder? Maybe that’s how I’d bring Oliver in.
As for Jiya/Sara - could be? If I take a non-white character out though I tend to want to replace her with a non-white character. Could be Curtis, a little gender/race-bending there? And that way the character’s expertise is more or less maintained.
(ETA: I came back and read this and realized that this sounds like I think all non-white characters regardless of race are interchangeable - I very very much do not think that. I just don’t want to load up on white characters in an AU based off a show with a great diverse cast).
