I won't say "feel ashamed or guilty" for being excited, because tbh as a transgender former fan I WISH I could enjoy the series like I do dead authors, that I could say, "Yeah, she was a bigot, and there are places in the books where it shows, but that was a century ago and she can't hurt anybody now." I fucking WISH one of my favorite childhood authors was not ACTIVELY campaigning to have my kind eliminated, and being misogynistic, racist, and antisemitic as well. It would be nice if I could just enjoy the thing.

But you can't publically condemn something AND publically celebrate it. Not giving her views or money is great, piracy is preferable, but keep it to yourself. Don't give the show free advertising and hype it up, don't normalize giving lip service to trans rights while engaging in our oppression. Otherwise you're a spineless hypocrite who has chosen a side. You are CONTRIBUTING to her campaign against transgender people, and women's rights by extension.

guys. marlene mckinnon isn't popular. people barely know who she is other than "mary macdonald and james potter's friend", "the other beater on the gryffindor team", and "that guitarist in that band". marlene mckinnon was autistic, a goth, an out lesbian, and a nerd. yes she's a jock so you'd think she'd be popular? not the case. she's a beater, and good at it. doesn't mean she's liked outside of quidditch matches or giving strangers the occasional cigarette. she dresses in 'boy' clothes, she wears alternative clothing, she rants about joan jett, and wonder woman, and princess leia. she's brutally honest, loud, and passionate about random things. she makes jokes about stealing guy's girlfriends and sleeping with people's mums. marlene mckinnon is one of the coolest people ever. and people absolutely do not like her at all.
