pinkies have more fun
i like to think that in the far future of the one piece world, big mom is like the genghis khan of genealogy. like oh, your dna test came back? cool. i'm related to charlotte linlin, just like 40% of people from the new world. oh you're related to her, too? sick. twinsies.
Big Mom as she is now cannot be excused for all the destruction & hurt she's caused, but my heart will always bleed for Linlin the little girl.
She was failed by everyone in her life & then groomed until adulthood by an asshole who wanted to use her naivete & strength for his own benefit. We see in Wano that if she had only met different people she could've turned out a lot nicer of a person. Instead we are only left with the violent and erratic woman who can't control any of her urges being one of the most powerful people in the series. Truly terrifying.
She's so clearly a metaphor for children with disabilities + aggression issues that never got the help they deserved and it breaks my fucking heart. I could've been a good mother to you Linlin 💔.
realllll Kaido, smile, don't act like a bore!!!!
makes this within like, 3 hours and throws it at tumblr because i NEEDED to make this with One Piece characters.
also because i think the idea of the Marines having a diversity initiative is the funniest shit in the world.

New One Piece Illustration by Eiichiro Oda.
Oda really said: "Theres too many characters with daddy issues and not enough with mommy issues" and then gave Charlotte Linlin 85 kids to remedy that.
I was wondering if this scene was in the manga or anime only and I'm actually really glad it's also in the manga. It's such a great example of how she is a victim of abuse and how she suffers even when she tries to appease her mother. How she has almost no agency in her own life. She can't even pick her own wedding dress ffs!
In fact, Oda had been able to make the readers doubt their own instincts regarding Pudding's true intentions at the beginning of this arc by showing us the situation she seems to be in with her mother. It was easy for the fans to disregard the sense of something being "too good to be true" with Pudding being introduced as the perfect ally because even though she was secretly an enemy she is also a victim in her own right. She should have as much incentive to thwart Big Mom as the rest of the crew.
Putting the rest under a read more because it gets long, but I think it needs to be
Oh my god I can't stop thinking about Kaido and Big Mom's relationship it's so underrated. Kaido was a child soldier at age 10, sold to the marines as a political pawn, on the run until he found an older sibling/mentor figure at age 15 in the most unstable backstabbing pirate crew imaginable. This perpetually pregnant MILF who steals souls like a goddamn Mortal Kombat finisher says "I've got your back" and means it! She gives him his devil fruit! Then they separate, hate each other, but demand to fight to the death on equal terms. Only to get drunk and team up so they can kill each other later! They're frenemies, drinking buddies, mentor and mentee, rivals... she calls him a little brother. When Big Mom is defeated, Kaido cries while remembering how they first met. Man I love this series you get such interesting male/female platonic relationships!!
