ok, so this year I made a submission for Folio Society illustrations contest..since the theme was Howl’s moving castle, it was a real challenge to draw illustrations somehow different from the movie! If you want you can vote for me here (but there are so many better artworks…decide for yourself :D )
Flashback to 2018 when I painted this for the first Art Ghoullery exhibition at the Rourke Art Gallery + Museum in Moorhead, MN!
I have giclee prints on my website if anyone wants to add some Halloween spirit to their walls! heatherfranzen.com/shop/reunion

Voting as Fire Extinguishter (poem by Kyle Tran Myhre)
When the haunted house catches fire:
a moment of indecision.
The house was, after all, built on bones,
and blood, and bad intentions.
Everyone who enters the house feels
that overwhelming dread, the evil
that perhaps only fire can purge.
It’s tempting to just let it burn.
And then I remember:
there are children inside.
Chapters: 1/6 Fandom: Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves (2023) Rating: Teen And Up Audiences Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply Relationships: Edgin Darvis/Xenk Yendar, Holga Kilgore/OC Characters: Edgin Darvis, Xenk Yendar, Kira Darvis, Holga Kilgore, Doric (Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves), Simon Aumar Additional Tags: 5 + 1, Relationship Advice, Domestic, Fiber Arts Series: Part 6 of Counterpoint Summary:
The look Xenk gives him is distinctly dry. “Even after many years of your acquaintance, I find it difficult to believe that you encouraged a child to join you in such exploits.”
“Hey,” Ed protests. “It was family time. Shared hobbies are important, you know. I was a very involved parent.”
“Crime is no hobby.”
It’s so much better to know that the restraint in Xenk’s voice is from his attempt not to laugh, rather than tightly-controlled anger, that Ed decides to let this falsehood go. “You can’t say I wasn’t right,” he says, in mock outrage. “Turns out it was useful life experience after all.”
Five times someone gave Ed relationship advice, and one time it was his turn.
