Dear governments

Please, do something.

I know this is gonna fall on deaf ears, I know this probably won't even get notes, I know I'm fighting against something far greater and far older than me; human greed. But I still have to say it; please, do something to protect the environment.

Please, do something to protect our planet; our home.

I'm not even a Millenial, meaning I'm not even 20, and I already fear for my life and my future beyond college applications or finding a job. I am terrified of, despite the better health care and, supposedly, laboral conditions, not surviving beyond my forties.

All of this because we keep on killing the only planet we call home. Do you know how twisted that is?!

Many times I've seen elders or adults comment on how depressed my generation is, and they're right; we're depressed. We're depressed because we're slowly dying as a result of previous generations' selfish actions and careless attitude towards the environment.

Have you ever had your worries eased by hearing you'd probably be dead before the end arrives? We're the unspoken generation that ultimately pays for it.

I am well aware there are many, many individuals that don't take climate change seriously and keep on polluting and damaging the environment, believe me, I know.

But that doesn't blind me from the fact that governments are supposed to be the ones in charge of making everything better, of fighting for the future of their citizens; of taking good care of us.

And what are governments doing now?

They're focusing on hurting people who just wish for a better future for themselves and their families, willing to take whatever shitty job that's thrown their way because no one else is willing to take it, despite how hypocritical that is. They're focusing on damned "revolutions" when most of the population is just mildly annoyed by it at worst. They're trying to end strikes by force instead of actually listening to the people's reasoning behind it. They're fighting meaningless wars they started themselves following their power hungry wishes, twisting a culture's entire heritage to make other countries fear it and hate it.

But they're not actually taking climate change seriously.

I remember when I was a little kid and we were reading this book in class. It was about tales and legends all around the world. I don't know if they've currently changed this strategy, but, according to the girl writing the section, Mexico has a day (I don't remember if it was per week or month) when it was forbidden to drive in order to fight pollution.

And the idea has been with me ever since.

Maybe this is just hopeful thinking, but with these methods we could do so much!

I'm from Spain, for example, and my country has great potential for solar energy. We have around 2000 hours per year of sun. Using solar energy could do so much good! Why are we still stuck depending on others? If the petrol, gas or energy companies lost money, we wouldn't be fighting such powerful adversaries.

Earth would stand a chance!

People can argue that forbidding traffic wouldn't really do much good but, if we played our cards right, maybe, we would actually be capable of so much more.

Maybe, if countries invested more in public transportation there wouldn't be that much of a need to use cars, vans, trucks, etc. More public transport can also imply more jobs, reducing unemployment. There are just so many plans and methods to stop this crisis. And yet, why do I only ever find out about them on social media? Why don't you, governments, ever advertise them?

I'll tell you why. Because it doesn't matter to you.

You only care about money, power and fulfilling your own agendas.

You might not see it yet, but the clock's ticking, and before you realise it, unless we do something about it, it will be too late. And no amount of money in the world will save you, because if there's something the Middle Ages was right about, that is that Death makes no distinction between rich or poor.

Yours truly,

A young girl who doesn't want to die.

okay, since no one’s talking about this, i will.

i also apologize for my bad english. i’m ukrainian and writing this in a rush.

anyway.

TW: murder, death threats, homophobia, transphobia.

the russian LGBT community is in deep shit right now.

a russian LGBT rights activist elena grigoryeva was recently found dead with 8 stab wounds near her home.

the police didn’t do anything about it, despite how many people called out for help.

there’s also a russian anti LGBT group called “pila” (“chainsaw”). a couple of months prior they published a hit list of LGBT activists from russia. elena was on the list. and so are other people who are related to the community in some ways.

they stated that they prepared some “cruel gifts” to the people on the list. the beauty blogger andrew petrov (whose name is also on it) recently made a post for his followers that shed more light on the situation.

another activist, andrew shituhin is a victim of this organization. the addresses of his family, along with other personal information got published on the website. earlier he got kicked out of his university. he immigrated to netherlands, although recently he came to a town near moskow to live for a bit. his friend, zhenia svetski, is aimed at by this organization. in a threatening email “pila” stated that he will be killed before august if andrew doesn’t help him to immigrate to netherlands.

all i’m asking for is to spread this post so that more people from other countries are aware of the situation.

also, i’m encouraging russian folks to add more information to this post in case if i missed anything. thank you.

update: holy shit, this post really blew up. thank you all so much for spreading it.

https://lgbtnet.org/en/help-us-so-we-can-help-others you can donate to the russian LGBT network here. they’re currently working on protecting people from “pila” so every dollar and pound is appreciated. ♡

Stay safe everyone who is queer in Russia or surrounding areas. Please reblog to spread awareness.
