The tapestries

@full-moon-phoenix @thelovablycynicalerinmac @mysticcollectionbee I've always wondered the same thing as you regarding the tapestries. And the only explanation I can find is that their portrayals in the tapestries are not only a result of their actions in life, but also the role they were supposed to have in Mewni History.

Thanks to Into the Wand and The Magic Book of Spells, as well as Glossarick's nature, I've come to the conclusion that anything related to Glossy's magic (the wand was created by him, and he chose to start living in the book when Skywinne was queen) had some kind of clairvoyance. I believe those objects knew their fate and the fates related to every single user.

Don't forget Rhina's poem foreshadowed either the destruction of the book, or magic altogether.

So I think the tapestries are supposed to reflect how past Butterflys' actions affected the events that transpired and Star's final decision of destroying all magic.

If you ask me, it makes sense that Jushtin and Estrella's tapestries, even Festivia's, are so boring in comparison to Moon's or Eclipsa's.

Their actions as rulers/magic users weren't relevant at all to the story.

Jushtin was a great mathematic, but he didn't have the talent to be a mage; his spells added nothing of value, unlike Star's, which vary in a great amount of uses—and that was before she even learned to dip down.

In other words, his actions had no impact on Mewni's future (besides, even if he had been a proficient spellcaster, he would've lost the throne to Solaria).

Estrella wasn't even mentioned during the entire show. Glossarick even admitted in the magic book of spells that she never used her wand for anything that wasn't drawing, and that she was popular amongst Mewmans because nothing changed.

I'd like to move on to the most "controversial" tapestries: Festivia's, Crescenta's, and Comet's.

Festivia turned out to be an important character for the show (I remember being surprised she had any relevance whatsoever); she was the first ancestor of the Faux Butterfly family and, in the long-run, the reason Meteora went on a rampage and tried to get the kingdom back; she lost everything to an orphan with no connection to the Butterfly family. Heck, she wasn't even a citizen of Mewni!

However, as Queen, despite her popularity, she wasn't much better than Rhina or Estrella... Her entire rule was based on partying to keep her people distracted from the war. Because that's what she was: a diversion.

She was the High Comission's façade for the crimes they'd committed against Mewmanity and Eclipsa's family. They thought what happened to Eclipsa and Meteora would never go back to hunt them as long as people believed Festivia was a true Butterfly.

She never really made her own choices, she'd been heavily influenced by the MHC her entire life, she didn't even have offensive or defensive spells! She just spent her time partying, locked away in the castle, while Mina fought off the monsters.

When it comes to Crescenta, I think her tapestry isn't anything grand either because her most important act, which involved Ludo's family, was resolved fairly early in the story.

The Avarius lost their power long before Toffee even faced Moon, and Ludo found closure not through Star's actions, but his brother's.

And finally, we have Comet.

The fact that she's only ever portrayed if Moon is in the picture has been frustrating for many, myself included. But I think I finally have the answer for why her character is so dependent of Moon's.

Despite her best efforts at uniting Mewmans and Monsters, Comet's importance within the plot is not her own story, but her daughter's.

It was her death what encouraged Moon to take the decision that would lead to her very own tapestry.

It was her death at the hands of a monster what made Moon so distrustful of their kind and of Eclipsa that she only went on worsening her people's relationship with them, instead of finishing what her mother started.

It was her death and Moon's early coronation what eventually made Moon incapable of letting go of her role as queen, and thus, betray Eclipsa and Star.

Comet is important in the story, because she's Moon's backstory.

This got really long, and it probably doesn't explain everything (or I might even be mistaken), but at least it does provide some more satisfactory explanation (I hope).

Solaria and her beloved daughter

Final episode is a little controversial, but let’s talk about one of the best scenes in it and what it’s implies.

When Eclipsa was a young girl she was really close with her mother. The way she mimics her gestures in the previous episode, picture in Solaria’s chapter in which Eclipsa sits on her mother’s back with a sword in her hand. I’m sure before her meeting with Globgor Eclipsa wanted to be just like her mother. (What’s more, show always were pretty clear with not only Star-Eclipsa parallels, but with Moon-Eclipsa as well. And since Moon had a strong bound with her mother and wanted to be like her before a certain incident that happened during her teenage years it’s safe to assume that the same goes for Eclipsa).

But after that Eclipsa realised that the way her mother rules the kingdom is wrong. In The Right Way she says she’s sworn to herself to never use her mother’s spells in the fear of turning in her.

Though, Globgor definitely changed Eclipsa’s opinion on Queen Solaria, she still loved her Mother Solaria. In the book of spell Eclipsa says she can’t even properly mourn her mother’s death.

However, it’s became harder and harder every day since after Solaria’s death Eclipsa had to deal with her will (marriage with Shastacan) and legacy she left behind. She couldn’t simple turn it all down, not with Solarians near her kingdom’s gate. But it was fine. But once 300 years later Queen Solaria’s legacy kept ruining her life… It’s definitely was a huge pressure on Eclipsa. The fact that Mina keeps reminding her that she betrayed Queen’s ideals and that her mother’d be very disappointed in her if she could see her probably also wasn’t any help.

So once Eclipsa confronts her in the realm she can’t bring herself to look at her. What would her mother think of her now when she married a monster and has a half-monster daughter?

Eclipsa definitely hasn’t realised just how much her mother loves her. For Solaria her daughter is the most important thing in the whole world. The way she treats Mina in the realm proofs it.

Her daughter’s life takes priority. So, go to hell Mina for trying to murder her.

Of course, I can be wrong and it’s a 300 years of death that changed her, but I have a feeling that if Solaria had lived long enough to see Eclipsa fleeing Mewni she’d have change her attitude towards monsters for Eclipsa.

So. At the end this happens.

They finally met. Both of them realize just how messed up every is/was. You can see all the guilt they feel. The way Eclipsa looks at her mother, waiting for words of disappointment, just breaks my heart.

But then Meteora gets Solaria’s attention and…

She just gently touchs her precious granddaughter!

Through the whole interaction Eclipsa and Solaria said nothing. But they don’t need any words.

Eclipsa finally realizes just how big her mother’s love and gets Solaria’s approval on her life choice. Solaria on the other hand, finds peace with monsters with Eclipsa’s (and maybe Meteora’s) help.

They both can finally rest and let all the pain go.

"I’m starting to think either Eclipsa didn’t actually gave Moon her darkest spell or she somehow, for a lack of a better term, “baby proofed” it." I get what you're mean, but I disagree. The only way for Moon to read the "immortal killer" is for her to read her locked chapter. And Eclipsa said for to direct it at the heart, something specifically needed for that spell to work. So I do believe Eclipsa gave her the original immortal killer. Also, the second spell was created by Solaria.

Yeah, well it's true. The reason I said that was because I was slightly mistaken at the time, not to mention, both spells are super deadly and they manifest through a dark skull-butterfly and, as far as I'm concerned, none has a proper name. So in my defence, I'll say it was easy to get confused if you looked at it like I did.

Moreover, my point remains: Eclipsa warned Moon about the spell, she had written it in Low-Mewman to keep it safe from most Mewmans AND she didn't share her total anhilation spell like she said she had done, alongside many others, in "Butterfly trap".

In conclusion, my Queen knew what she was doing. But thank you for asking :)
