Hey ya’ll, time for a monthly Mystery Skulls Animated production update! To start things off we’re showing the cleaned and colored shot of the Deadbeats scene we posted last month. In addition we also wanted to showcase a little more of the rest of the cast, this time including Vivi/The Ancestor being very cool and animated by the amazing Zeurel! This month’s preview features very ominous snapping… from a very ominous character… This is perhaps the most spoilery thing we can show off, but remains vague enough for us to be able to show it off.

We’ve been very excited to show this design off for awhile now from the newest Mystery Skulls Animated music video! This big scary boy goes by the name Murder Mystery. We had some wonderful design help from the lovely artist @nelnal382 who collaborated with our crew to help design this guy. Hope you enjoyed seeing him as a surprise at the end of the video!
You know, the wait for Mystery Skulls The Future didn't seem that long. I mean, when I realised it had been a two-year hiatus I was so shocked! Because I was convinced it'd only been one!
...Aaaaand then I remembered 2020 has been one big, muddled month since March and everything made sense again.

“Mushi - the Ancestor” “A bescarfed warrior from an ancient time. She wields an enchanted, chilly blade cold enough to slice through even the most hot-headed demon. Her fate seems intertwined with the modern day Vivi, but in what way currently remains a mystery.“ I wanted to have this done much closer to when Hellbent was released, but that wasn’t meant to be. Better late then never I suppose. Started out as a general ref sheet since I realized that we never had a true front view of her design shown in the video. Eventually it turned into a character exploration sheet instead. She has a name now too! I have plans to do more of these with the main cast, but I hope you enjoy a small look at our newest character shown off briefly in the most recent Mystery Skulls Animated music video. We’re definitely not done with her, not by a long shot. :)

So I decided to for fun - create some gijinka / human concepts for Mystery and the deadbeats. I also got around to creating an additional concept for a certain someone. These were a lot of fun to put together - with making them simplistic in design but with a twist. KIKI2018
