Honestly I don't know why HW gems look so drastically abstract from how they did in earlier seasons. The whole idea of homeworld is symmetrical and perfect and yet the gems have all turned to look like weird statues or a million different shapes for one gem. Which makes the offcolors seem like really no big deal. And then there's the fusions. While Garnet stabilized other fusions look like they just fused yesterday even if they were long term. It's just so odd
Character design is a complex thing...
I myself couldn't help but notice the way they organised everything in the ball. It pretty much showed they try to avoid fusion as much as possible, especially between different types of gems. I mean:
- They danced imitating how a clock works.
- For that same matter, only gems of the same type danced with each other.
In other words, since fusions like Garnet are born from passionate moments/dances, then I think we could say the Diamonds forbade them. But Idk...
The reason why those gems look less symmetrical than other homeworld gems could be because they are a crowd. In animation, when you need to double characters, you copy the same design and create crowds with it. And since they're not important characters, there's no need for complicate character designs.
Hope I helped, anon! Happy New Year!!
