Sorry, I know you didn't ask for this, but actually the reason I ever started working on New Horizons in the first place is precisely because I felt like every other high school AU misinterpreted their characters and their dynamic so badly.

I'm sorry, but you're telling me you see this sweet boy, with big Golden Retriever Boyfriend energy, pine and swoon for a cool, ambitious goth girl who knows what she wants and almost single-handedly get her to leave the villain life behind, all the while she resists with everything she has and is the only member in her whole team able to keep up with him or outsmart him and your first instinct is, "Yeah, this reads like Wally would bully a shy, meek Jinx in high school"????

Sorry, I don't know what you watched, but it wasn't Lightspeed.

Wally was down horrendously bad since day one and that's what I tried to reflect. Though I'll admit I kept Jinx as a bit of an outcast, since that is truer to the episode's spirit.

personally i never bought in to this idea in oneshots and fics i read that jinx is supposedly "not attractive".

sure i have personal headcanon that she does look a bit inhuman with the cat eyes and stuff, she has a creepy cheshire cat-like smile shown especially in her first episode debut, perhaps its due to the 2000s era when she's affected by this general perception of goths, punks, alike are framed as "geeks/outcasts" and "not cool" in common media. (while nowadays they're seen as cool, as they should've been hhh)

she's framed as "not attractive" in some fanwork and yet a confirmed total of four guys have feelings for her at some point in teen titans 2003's history. (kid kold/leo, cyborg, see-mour, and kid flash)

i think that should be a testament about an aspect of her at least.

my personal headcanon is Jinx's hexes is a way to properly control and channel the bad luck that came from her though i really like the idea that Jinx's bad luck power is also affected by her emotion as well.

thinking of a scenario where she'd have so much pent up feelings, maybe in panic or fear, or whatever intense feeling the bad luck leaks out, that the lights around her flicker, lightbulbs breaking each one, glass and mirrors shatters, flower pots fall and breaks, the cement she stands on cracks.

the pent up emotions cause bad luck to happen around her but its as if some intense paranormal haunting is happening, its just so cool to visualize about.

and perhaps Kid Flash being the one that can calm her down. ⚡🍀

anyway, this is one of my earliest attempts in drawing Jinx and Kid Flash. the right is more closer to my actual artstyle haha.
