I think my favourite argument of Phinabella shippers who believe that Phineas has a crush on Isabella is that they don't speak the same love language.

Isabella's vision for romance stems from all the tropes you see in young adult fiction. The kissing in the rain. Sharing an umbrella. Cute little ice cream dates. Personal heartfelt gifts with value that stems not from grandeur, but sentimentality. Sure she fantasizes about them running away together into the sunset as Phineas turns into a centaur to marry and live happily ever after but they've been purposefully overdramaticised and she thinks they're unrealistic. She wants PHINEAS to tell her he likes her, because he's the boy.

GIRL. Phineas Flynn Only Speaks in Grandeur!!!! You need an umbrella to walk to your house in the rain? NO PROBLEM! He's built an underground tunnel fully equipped for housing between your houses in 10 minutes using a shovel. Never seen a rainbow? No problem! He'll build a contraption to shoot rainbows and disrupt global weather to make you happy. Oh shoot. You meant unicorns? No problem! He'll genetically engineer one from scratch for you right now! He's made full day plans and a singing event with chorus girls and 20 tier cake of your favourite flavour the size of your house for your birthday DONT LOOK THE REST IS A SURPRISE. IT GETS BETTER. What's your whim, Isabella? You want a face carved into the mountain? A national holiday where everyone fawns over your cuteness? A chair in the senate? What does he need to do to prove it? Walk over lava? Climb a mountain? Travel the world in 24 hours????? Girl, the ONLY thing he cant do for you is say what he means out loud! He's not good at feelings! That's Ferb's job! You were always the braver, put together one!!! For God's sake Isabella Garcia-Shapiro, don't make me slap you!! He's been trying to say the same thing this whole time!!!

yknow what i just realized?

one might initially see phineas as the leader of the group. he comes up with the plans, he gives everyone instructions, and he keeps everyone's spirits high.

but a crucial part of being a leader is keeping a cool head in dire situations, especially when things don't go well for the leader themself.

phineas, as he states in The Phineas and Ferb Effect, has very little frame of reference for what to do when things go seriously wrong. when something does go wrong, his first instinct is to panic and/or lash out at whoever is at fault. he starts running around in a panic and blaming himself when isabella goes missing in NOTLP, he gets so angry that he refuses to inform himself and reason with perry after finding out he's a secret agent in AT2D, he revokes candace's shed card and kicks her out without letting her try to fix her mistake caused by a small oversight in mission marvel, he totally freaks out when he isn't allowed to build anything in BBB, and he shuts down and gives up when he can't figure out how to get off the island in SBTY.

phineas flynn isn't a leader. he's (unintentionally) a control freak that doesn't know how to handle his emotions.

and who snaps him out of his funk in SBTY? who invites candace back to the shed to make things right in mission marvel? who makes sure phineas can build again as soon as possible in BBB? who reappears with a solution to the zombie apocalypse in NOTLP? who offers a team of capable individuals numerous times to help with phineas's plans? none other than isabella.

she's resourceful, reasonable, and able to think clearly in dire situations. isabella is the real leader, keeping everyone in line and making phineas's dreams a reality every time.

which is why phineas feels so lost when she stops coming over.

Phinabella Recommendations

So, I know I asked for recommendations for fanfics and stuff, but I kinda wanna give yall recommendations too. Cuz I can. Lol

Okay, we all know that "Can't Help Falling in Love" by @authenticcadence18 is a masterpiece, right? Right. I need that kinda story telling in my life. And we all agree that this is more canon than "Act Your Age"? Yeah? Just wanted to make sure. Seriously, if you haven't read that yet, you seriously need to, it's just so very wholesome and it portrays their relationship so well. And everyone else for that matter - Ferb's such a good bro, man.

I also read "Christmas Bliss" by PianoMan5 on FanFiction recently - a very fluffy lovey-dovey Phinabella fic that I'm sure most of you have heard of. It was...absolutely adorable. Basically a story about Phineas finding out about a secret of Isabella's, prompting him to try and get her the perfect Christmas gift - full of romance, winter bugs, and sprinkled with a snobby girl (but don't worry, we don't get any drama from THAT). PianoMan5 also is writing "Frozen Reality", which is another great Phinabella fic that's ongoing - I warn you, that one DOES have drama that really hits you in the feels.

This is a personal favorite of mine that got me OBSESSED with the idea of a Soulmate AU - "Rewrite the Stars", by fangirlwriting on FanFiction, is about Phineas and Isabella falling in love with each other, even though they're not each other's soulmate. (It's very cute and so very worth it, I highly recommend this one, PLEASE, it's a story that makes me super happy)

"In Two Weeks" is a fic written by my friend defiant00, again from FanFiction. It takes during the two weeks that take place literally seconds after the events of "Act Your Age" - it does well to patch things up and give us the Phinabella content we deserved from that episode. It's also pure, unadulterated fluff - no unnecessary drama whatsoever, just warm fuzzy feelings.

Isabella is a very active girl who shows her affection for Phineas. Dr. Doofenshmirtz is not evil. Instead, his daughter Vanessa is evil. And Ferb…..is really talkative. He has a crush on some evil girl, and often tells her about his brother’s evil plans.

1. From the Mafia AU - Doof is an ACTUAL pharmacist in the AU who gets caught up in the Fireside Syndicate’s shenanigans, particularly Isabella’s.

2. From an AU where Isabella’s a bad girl and Phineas is a shy nerd - they both crush on each other hard. I recently started thinking about this AU again and I accidentally developed it more while I was at work. 😂

3. The Mermaid AU - Isabella doesn’t understand that humans shouldn’t really eat raw LIVING fish.

Anybody else wanna bet the moment Isabella started working at Nosh Olé a lovesick Phineas would drop by at least once a week and have lunch just to have an excuse to see her and talk to her for a while?

As much as I absolutely adore What Might Have Been, what an absolute heartwrencher of a song my God, I do resent we didn't get any "flashbacks" (cough, flashforwards, cough!) of Phineas pining over an oblivious Isabella during high school. That episode presented us with a two-fold story of irony and then didn't deliver!
