like, we’ve got 2 backstories that they flip flop between. in tos and snw we see mentions of Tarsus IV, and we get little hints as to how it impacted him but nothing concrete

in all Star Trek media, we get that Kirk is from Riverside, Iowa. but we see no mentions of Tarsus IV or Kirk’s childhood besides a couple deleted scenes in AOS with Sam Kirk.

They are! Joanna, as far as I’ve seen (still new to the fandom) only gets one canonical reference in the Animated Series, and I don’t think they name her? But I could be wrong. Bones’ wife is marked as unnamed on his wiki, but from what I understand most people headcanon her as Jocelyn Treadway, a non canon book character. So, yeah, the writers all collectively went “fuck their backstories” and I’ll die mad about it

You’re more likely to be living in a multigenerational household while also doing some work on the side while raising your kids. Your money will go straight to your husband and he gets to decide what happens to it.

I've also seen a load banging on about how yes their husband would be Head of the House, but they would be the Woman In Charge and I'm thinking nah, that's your mother in law. You're 25. She's the boss until she dies, you're a servant who happens to have the same last name.

In a truck stop bathroom washing my hands today and 2 boys, looked about 5 and 9, came in with their little sister who looked maybe 2. The following whispered conversation made my entire day

This was in a small town country truck stop and both boys had "Murica" type stuff on and neither of them had any issue at all with these concepts. Their mom approached me while I was in line about 10 minutes later and apologized for them bothering me in the bathroom (they had told her about the interaction) and she and I had a lovely little chat too. I got to introduce her to the term "intersex" and her reply was "I think I've heard of that before! I didn't know that was the word for it. Amazing how many different ways God can make people!"

We are in no way a “major world religion,” and the idea that we are is a misconception that stems from the fact that the two largest and most historically and geopolitically powerful religions in the world, Christianity and Islam, were founded on the appropriation of our sacred texts which were never intended to be used by anyone other than the Jewish people. If you think you know anything about Judaism because you’ve learned about “Abrahamic faiths,” you probably don’t know anywhere near as much about Judaism as you think you do.

We aren’t trying to convert you. We simply are not. If I’m trying to tell you something about Judaism I’m just trying to share information or offer an alternate perspective or clear up misinformation, but literally we are never trying to convert you.

I get that it’s a knee jerk reaction to shy away from these discussions because you feel like this all comes with a hook, because that’s what Christianity does, but that isolation leaves you susceptible to misinformation and echo chamber thinking about Jews

Judaism is an ancestral religion not just in that it can be passed down through family but in the sense that we place a lot of emphasis on our ancestors and our connection to them and their experiences. Our cultural memory stretches back thousands of years and it is continuous. There is no doubt to us that the Ancient Israelites are our ancestors, and later evidence only proved it.

Disagreement and debate are big parts of Judaism. We don’t all believe the same things or interpret texts the same way. But part of this disagreement and debate is listening and understanding one another. The people, the community of Jews you are involved with and the cultural practices you do with that community are so much more important than individual belief.

A lot of us, you could see walking down the street and you would see absolutely no difference between us and you.

We have jobs, we volunteer, we get married, we spend too much money in the bookstore on accident.

We’re worried about rent, and politics, and being late for work.

I’m just a guy. Who happens to be unavailable on the weekends, and who has a slightly different diet than some of your other friends might.

Some computer related jobs will periodically send you emails posing as phishing scams and if you open it you automatically have to take a web safety training seminar and I just think they should do that for tumblr except with reading comprehension

Furthermore whoever removed the audio jack from phones should be grilled in front of congress. The fact that I need a dongle to listen to music on a modern telephone while 20 years ago I could have simply plugged a universally standardized cord into the audio jack everyone knew how to use is an anti-human move that should be punished.

OK SO a frozen baby Homotherium mummy has been found in Siberian permafrost and everybody is going nuts (including me). I had to make another installmente for this series with a figurine that has long been debated to either depict either a lion or Homotherium; Despite anatomical details pointing to the latter, there was no record of surviving Homotherium from the time the figurine was dated to have been made, so it was mostly believed to have been a cave lion. However, the frozen cub closes that temporal gap and makes it more likely that this was in fact the subject of the sculpture. So even though it’s not a painting, here it is brought to life.
