One thing about fandom culture that irkes me more than anything is this idea that you're only allowed to praise something if you're using it as an excuse to bash something else.

Spiderverse fans do it with MCU spiderman.

Amazing digital circus fans do it with Hazbin Hotel or Helluva boss.

Gamers do it with practically any game ever made ever. To the only thing I can ever find about Black Myth is how the fans were cyberbullying a journalist for having a criticism of it.

The world is dark and dreary enough as it is, can we let one thing be joyful? Please!

What an abuse victim lashing out at people is:

Snapping at someone, being rude or dismissive of people, or just shoving someone too hard during a heated moment.

What an abuse victim lashing out is NOT:

Trying to kill or hurt someone, mocking/ belittling someone elses abuse or truama.

That is just bullying and it's gross.

Character: Verbally abuses everyone around them, sacrifices anything.for power, slaughters countless people for fun, kills or abuses children, and enslaves people.

Gits: I can fix them. Redemption arc!

Other character: Is just a decent person who... doesn't do those things.

Gits: Ugh, so boring.

I'm just going to say it.

The tortured, manipulative, toxic bad boy trope is far more sexist and damaging than the Knight in shining armour trope will ever be.

At least when the knight saves a helpless maiden from a dragon, he doesn't expect her to "fix" him.
