What an abuse victim lashing out at people is:
Snapping at someone, being rude or dismissive of people, or just shoving someone too hard during a heated moment.
What an abuse victim lashing out is NOT:
Trying to kill or hurt someone, mocking/ belittling someone elses abuse or truama.
That is just bullying and it's gross.
ML fandom logic.
Marinette: I have to lie to the man I love to stop his entire world falling apart and I feel incredibly guilty about it. I just hope I made the right choice.
Fandom: Worst person ever! She brought all the suffering on herself and she's an abusive bitch!
Chloe: I bullied everyone around me and nearly killed a girl. Oh, also I got a pregnant woman fired. Lol I'm such a bitch and proud of it! I know what I do is wrong and I love it!
Fandom: Oh poor baby! Her mum is mean, that's why she's like this. Why won't her victims help her?!
Kagami: I trusted the wrong person and don't understand people due to my mother's psychopath nature.
Fandom: Lol, she's so pathetic and mean! Kill her, she's not even a person anyway.
Felix: I abused my cousin and sold several creatures into slavery and committed genocide while laughing and singing.
Fandom: Best boy! *simping noises*
Me.
People really need to learn the difference between having a sympathetic backstory and actually being sympathetic.
I don't have a problem with people acknowledging Chloe been abused.
I have a problem when people use said abuse as a "Get of criticizing her and calling out her flaws" card. Especially when these same people would go to victim blaming and demonizing characters with similar backstories.
ML fandom logic.
Fandom: We want a redemption arc for the bully character.
Kim: Wait my pranks actually hurt people and I'm an insensitive jackoff? Shit, I don't want to be like that.
Fandom: NO! The girl!
Sabrina: I've defended you for years Chloe, but no more! I'm not tormenting my peers and ruining people's lives anymore! Consider our friendship over!
Fandom: No! Not her! She's ugly! We meant the privileged rich white girl who joined a terrorist and nearly drowned a girl!
I will never understand how a sweetheart like Zoe could be related to Chloe.
Speaking of Dragon Age, there's a quotation by David Gaider that more pop culture fans ought to look up (even if Gaider didn't always take his own advice): "Privilege is when you think that something's not a problem because it's not a problem for you personally." Fans can afford to call villains "overhated" because fans don't have to personally deal with the damage they cause. It's also why fans care about some social issues but treat others as a joke; only some issues personally affect them.
That's pretty much it. Yeah.
For example I can only assume people who don't hate Chloe for getting Caline fired are privileged enough to have never lost a job.
No, I will NOT let that go!
“some people don’t deserve redemption” redemption isn’t something that’s deserved, it’s something someone does. it’s making the choice to change the way you live your life, to be better, to do good things instead of bad things and try to make up for the bad things. and everyone can and should do that, at any time, no matter what they’ve done. we can’t change the past, but we can choose what kind of person to be now and in the future. we have the responsibility to do so. it is so completely not about “deserving.”
It's impossible to say this without sounding like an old man. So screw it. Call me Abe Simpson.
I remember a time when saying that you hated bullies, slavers, racists, child abusers, abusive partners, and evil people in general wasn't controversial and didn't get you called names like.
"Puritan" "Ignorant" "Sexist" etc....
If I had a pound for every character that was potentially interesting but the fandom made insufferable though over exposure.... Well I'd probably have a lot more than two pounds.
But these two stick out the most.
The next person who sends an ask about Chloe is getting blocked.
I am so sick of this character.
Fanfic: Miraculous ladybug Rewrite!
Me: Ooh, this could be interesting.
Fanfic: OK, first of all. Chloe redemption.
Me: And I Lost all interest.
I think it's interesting that Chloe stans love bringing Felix up when they call double standards.
" Oh so the guy who stole the Miraculous gets a redemption but not her!?"
Uh, Chloe did that too. Remember Season 3 final two parter.
And as much as it disguts me to defend Felix. His motivation is a lot more understandable than Chloe’s. Keep in mind I said "understandable" not sympathetic.
Felix: I'm using this as a bargaining chip to get the power that controls my existence. Sure I'm putting people at risk. But I'll fix that later I am so smart!
He isn't, by the way. He just got lucky.
Chloe: I'm stealing superpowers for myself because I can't accept being told "no"
Just saying. You can call double standards if you like. But you can't say Chloe is a better person than Felix.
I still say getting Caline Bustier fired is one of the worst things Chloe has ever done.
This woman gave Chloe more chances than anyone and always tried to support her and give her a chance to better herself. She was more of a mother to her than that vile harpy Audrey ever was.
And Chloe tries to outright ruin her life. As well as the Life of Caline’s wife and child.
Say what you like about Felix. At least he loves Amilie.
Do you know that some people (Chloe stans) are disappointed that Miraculous Movie (which is retelling of "Origins" two-parter) "most probably wouldn't have Chloe Redemption"?
I am so sick of Chloe.
I don't want to hear about her or her "redemption" ever again.
