Hi! How did you get into writing whump and do you have any tips for beginners?
Hi! :D
I was writing whump before I knew what whump was, I just liked writing about characters going through awful stuff, plus I wanted to fix what cartoons and other media wouldn't do properly out of spite (no wound care, fake kidnappings and such). A few years ago my writing slowed down cause I felt like I was weird for wanting to write about those things, and that it wasn't "real" writing. Then I stumbled across this community, which was enlightening, picked up writing again - in Polish at first, finally unapologetic whump - and once I got more confident and started craving attention I switched to English and started posting my writing, and here I am now ^^
As for tips, I don't think I have any writing ones specifically, but I have something related to the community: interaction can get you far, reblogging from people, talking in the tags, sending asks, responding to prompts, but also taking part in community events, including writing ones! Writing events are great for getting your work out there, but also for finding motivation and inspiration if you want to write, but you're not sure what. Proper tagging is also a huge one, since whump includes potentially triggering or upsetting themes, but tags also help people find your writing - tumblr suggests commonly used tags, so try different wording of a trope you're using and see if it already exists in the community.
