Battle of Praia Bay, 1830 The Battle of Praia Bay was fought on August 11, 1829, between Portuguese loyalists and a Miguelite fleet. The Miguelites attempted to disembark troops on Terceira island but were defeated by the loyalist troops who controlled a dozen small forts and artillery batterys along five kilometers of the coast. The defeat of the absolutists in this battle was decisive for the affirmation and posterior victory of the liberal ideas in Portugal.
Battle outside the Hôtel de Ville, by Jean Victor Schnetz, 1830 The French Revolution of 1830, also known as the July Revolution, Second French Revolution or Trois Glorieuses in French, saw the overthrow of King Charles X, the French Bourbon monarch, and the ascent of his cousin Louis-Philippe, Duke of Orléans, who himself, after 18 precarious years on the throne, would in turn be overthrown. It marked the shift from one constitutional monarchy, the Bourbon Restoration, to another, the July Monarchy; the transition of power from the House of Bourbon to its cadet branch, the House of Orléans; and the substitution of the principle of popular sovereignty for hereditary right. Supporters of the Bourbon would be called Legitimists, and supporters of Louis Philippe Orléanists.
Lithographic reproduction of "Governor Davey's Proclamation to the Aborigines" In 1830 in Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania) small wooden panels known as "Proclamation to the Aborigines" were nailed to trees. Based on drawings by the Surveyor General George Frankland (1800–1838) these pictograms heralded an apparent official aim of peace and equality between black and white.
