Best go vote add I’ve seen, maybe ever

I remember posting this back in 2020, not even intending the message to be “go vote”. The last photo was chosen among many others simply because it was a nice visual conclusion to the preceding chaos. The post was made many months before the election, and I had intended more to speak to the overall terrifying political climate of 2020 and all the small things we were doing to fight back and make changes that year.

But upon posting this, I received over 400 asks (I stopped counting) from different people demanding that I take the post down, telling me how dare I suggest that people vote in this political climate, and even several dozen anonymous asks threatening to attack/kill me for “spreading nationalistic propaganda”

It’s hard to remember, but that was the general sentiment around the election online in 2020: Rampant disinformation. Large-scale campaigns dissuading people from voting. Hundreds of negative comments on any post that even MENTIONED voting. You couldn’t get away.

But this election? It’s night and day. While I’m sure there’s still some people whining in a sad dark corner somewhere that moral purity is dead and they’re the last chosen saints of leftism, etc etc, the vast, VAST majority of people have zero tolerance for that bullshit this time around.

We are voting. We are talking to our friends and family about voting. We are reading the actual news and trying to cut through BS online quick-takes. We are getting people to the polls and donating to Harris and standing in line with others waiting to vote.

I’ve voted in every primary and election since I turned 18, but I have never seen young people voting on this level before. It’s truly mind-boggling just how much the younger voting block has mobilized in this election. This is the kind of thing that can change a nation if we let it.

Honestly, regardless of how the election turns out tomorrow, everybody should be so proud of what we tried to accomplish here. Keep up the good fight.

Democrats: alright we finally did it, Trumps been impeached. Time for a trial in the-

Republicans: lol yeah about that trial. It’s not gonna be fair or anything, we’ve already made up our minds and there’s gonna be like, 0 witnesses

Democrats: oh? Ok then. If that’s the case then I guess we’ll just hold on to these *pockets articles of impeachment*

Republicans:

Can someone explain what this means?

Our president has been charged with misconduct through the only proccess that is outlined in our constitution (impeachment). The next step in the process is that the president goes on trial. Republicans in the senate, where the trial will take place, have already said they have made up their minds and will vote based on bias. They have stated that it will be a quick trial with no witnesses and a guaranteed vote on acquittal. The democrats, who control the charges, have said that they will not release the charges to the senate until fair rules have been established. Republicans seem shocked by this turn of events

In case you’re wondering why this would make the republicans upset, the need this to go to trial or Trump will be on record as having been impeached and not acquitted.

The 2020 election is also coming up and a number of these senators are coming up for re-election.

FUCKING VOTE.

Here’s how you verify you’re registered to vote: https://www.rockthevote.org/voting-information/am-i-registered-to-vote/

Here’s how you register if you’re not: https://www.vote.org/register-to-vote/

Here’s how you find your fucking polling place: https://yourfuckingpollingplace.com/

If you have time, register for an absentee ballot in your state. That way you don’t even have to go to a polling place, you just have to fill it out and mail it in on time.

Gen X, Millennials, and Gen Z outnumber Boomers. More of us are Liberals who care about each other and social safety nets. More of us give a fuck about the future because we have to live in it

Flip the Senate. Fucking Vote. It’s so goddamn important.

2020 is crucial.

Here’s the thing: Republicans are counting on us not showing up to the polls.  They are expecting something similar to happen as happened in the UK a few weeks ago, that their base will be motivated and we won’t be.

In 2016, only 46.1% of eligible voters age 18-29 showed up; 58.7% of people 30-44 voted.  70.9% of eligible voters over 65 did.  This is why we lost the electoral college.  If we even came close to the same turnout, we would have won decisively.

Midterm elections never get as big turnout, but in 2018 44% of Millennials voted - literally double the % of 2014.  30% of Gen Z’ers did.  And over 50% of Gen Xers voted - the most ever for that generation in a midterm election.  We outvoted Boomers, and we flipped the House and several governors.

We win if we show up. We Win If We Show Up.  Prove the fuckers who are counting on our ennui wrong.  We can literally change the world if we play our parts.
