Had the chance to check out my friend’s new photo studio over in the soma area. He’s working on it right now, so these aren’t pictures of that space, but these are images of his friend’s space in the same hall. Walking into this studio was such a trip. As you probably are aware there is a big change going on in San Francisco. Primarily that of lower income folks being relocated on account of the cost of living. However, this building had an owner that, in his will, made it clear that the space needed to remain affordable, and solely for artists. For any creative trying to make it in a city primarily run by tech. I hope images of other artists making it through putting themselves out there will motivate you to go for it too.

Sunsets at Ocean Beach, San Francisco California sometimes look like the covers on those cardboard folders we had in the early 90s. -Arthur Alvarez

See these in print and put them in your home at the “Roam by Boreas” Pop-Up shop in the Mission District : ]

Party time Today (December 3) from 6-9 at 2708 24th street San Francisco California! I’ll have some photographs hanging in collaboration with @boreasgear , @mashsf , and a variety of other rad outdoor brands at their mission district pop up. A chunk of the proceeds are going to a local charity that gets kids out of the city and in touch with nature. So, swing by, say hi, have a beer, and support a good cause. Drinks and snacks provided

Cheers!

Sometimes, the ocean is powerful and incredibly frightening. The act of pushing yourself and overcoming that fear to ride the earth’s energy, offer’s up it’s own category of joy in the form of adrenaline. Because of this, most surfers complain about summer due to the generally more nurturing conditions. However, I recently took a friend out to learn, and was reminded of something I had almost forgotten. The silence. The relaxing flow felt from the gentle movement of the water. The blue to orange gradients in the sky as the sun fades away. What am I saying? Powerful waves are powerful, sure. But the moments in-between moments are just as powerful, if not more. -Arthur
