Fuck Yeah Warrior Women

@fuckyeahwarriorwomen / fuckyeahwarriorwomen.tumblr.com

Images of and words about women warriors, viragos, amazons, she-devils and other name takers. It's light on the cheesecake and heavy on the competence-porn, but sexy is cool and submissions always welcome.

Rare video game recommendation from me: if you ever enjoyed the Quest for Glory series of point-and-click adventure/RPG hybrids, I heartily recommend checking out Heroine's Quest. It's an extremely well-polished classic adventure game in the Quest for Glory tradition, meaning it allows multiple solutions to many of its obstacles, and more importantly it is entirely free! (Although you can buy a separate DLC that costs a few bucks and comes with a few extra goodies.)

South of Midnight

From the creators of Contrast and We Happy Few, South of Midnight is a spellbinding third person action-adventure game set in the American Deep South. As Hazel, you will explore the mythos and encounter creatures of Southern folklore in a macabre and fantastical world. When disaster strikes her hometown, Hazel is called to become a Weaver: a magical mender of broken bonds and spirits. Imbued with these new abilities, Hazel will confront and subdue dangerous creatures, untangle the webs of her own family's shared past and -if she's lucky - find her way to a place that feels like home.

📷welee12 said: In the base game there’s even a canonically bisexual companion (tho she is only romanceable by male PCs) with Kaliyo in the Imperial Agent storyline. Although she does fall into a lot of the negative media tropes around bisexual characters.
📷welee12 said: Unless they can canonizing this remake in a way they aren’t for the other Old Republic games (such as the MMO) this is even more of a stretch calling her the “first” than the normal Disney “first LGBT+ character” stuff. In SW:TOR the MMO that takes place about 500years after KotOR there’s plenty of companions in the recent expansions that can be romanced by either gender (in game), with some older companions even gaining a romance path in those expansions.

The Old Republic with its gay for pay approach to queer romance options only exists because of the love fandom holds for Knights of the Old Republic (and its wonderful, flawed, and frustratingly heterosexual sequel), which predate the MMPORPG by 7 years.

The whole point of the article is to point out that in 2003, when the game launched, just how intensely revolutionary Juhani was for queer rep both in terms of Star Wars and for Bioware's storytelling. Just because Disney with it memetic reputation with regards to queer characters purchased the franchise a decade later, it doesn't lesson Juhani's claim of actually being the first openly queer character in SW media.

Quite the opposite, it places the onus squarely on Disney and KotOR's inheritor not to erase or minimise her presence in this remake

Admittedly, I'm gonna be judging them hard when it comes to Juhani's storyline and whether they'll have the guts to unequivocally make her Disney's next 1st queer character

yikes it was that bad? lame

In some ways I think you could call Revhani the Korasami of its day: there's a story the writers want to tell but they have to skirt around the limitations put on them by the powers that be (in this case, Lucasfilm). if you pay attention, it's very clear that Juhani is a lesbian (or at least strongly sapphic*) but it's strongly subtextual in some respects, while you have to go looking for it in others like pay attention to NPCs when you have Juhani as a companion on specific missions.

The worst part was if you accidentally walked past a certain autotrigger too sdoon, despite putting all the hard work into it to get there you're locked out of the final romance conversation with Juhani where she admits you've helped her overcome her damage enough she's prepared to be in a relationship with you.

*: The initial Xbox release was glitched and allowed m!Revan to also remance Juhani, but this was correctly restricyed to f!Revan in the PC version, accompanied by word of god confirmation from the developers

Trailer for quirky new strategy wargame Humankind. Refreshingly it’s framed around a female protagonist/player (of colour, no less).

It’s not.  She’s meant to be a stand-in for the player, present in the ad.

I was speaking about the trailer itself framing its narrative against a player who’s something other than the same white dude bro virtually every other game is pitched at, but as the link above notes the focal character of the game is customisable to help each player tell the story they want about who they want to tell it about.

The Transistor devs role-reversing the game’s narrative from “Boxer man avenges dead singer girlfriend” to “Singer loses voice going apeshit on gang who killed her boxer boyfriend” is so iconic and more games need to reverse roles like this

“I love drawing girls,” She says, moments before turning the studio on it’s head with her wildly captivating artwork that sparked them to redefine the script to feature her character as the protagonist

Ooh! Amazons! In Space!

Finally trying out Age of Wonders: Planetfall. Let’s see… generic space-humans… diesel-punk space-dwarves(?)… giant space-bugs… and ooh! space-Amazons!

And no generically pretty, Hollywood Amazons in boob-plate armor, either. No, these are tall, beefy, genetically enhanced planet-conquering Amazons with advanced enviro-suits and superior bio-technology, motherf***ers!
