(I was actually planning to write more for this, so I’m glad you requested it, anon! =3 Continuing from here.)
Rin knocks on the door to Ryugazaki’s house. Izumi and Kazuaki have been having play dates there for a few months now, but Rin still can’t get over the fact that Ryugazaki lives in such a huge house, two and a half stories including the attic. Since it’s only Ryugazaki and his son living there, Rin wonders why the heck he needs all the space.
Rin smiles when Ryugazaki opens the door and gestures for them to come in. Izumi runs past him immediately and bolts up the stairs to play with Kazuaki. Shaking his head, Rin steps into the house and waits for Ryugazaki to close the door before the two of them head into the den.
"I still can’t believe how big this place is," Rin says, laughing a bit. "I thought you were an accountant or something, Ryugazaki. How the heck do you afford this place?"
"I’m the CFO of a hospital, Matsuoka-san," Ryugazaki corrects him. "It is a position that pays generously, after all. I might be able to get you a position in the financial department, if you asked nicely.”
"No, that’s all right. While coaching might not be the most lucrative career, it’s something I like to do. And it gives me time to be with Izumi when she’s not in school." He sits down on the sofa, folding his arms behind his head. He glances at Ryugazaki out of the corner of his eye. "Would you mind if I’m forward?"
Ryugazaki raises an eyebrow, taking a seat in a high-backed armchair. “About?”
"We’ve been doing this at least once a week for almost three months now," Rin begins, sitting up once again and looking at Ryugazaki pointedly. "We’ve had play dates at both of our places. Our kids really like each other and get along great. And I’m not going to lie, I’m a little bit—okay, a lot—into you. So let’s go out.”
Ryugazaki stares at him for a long while without saying anything. His expression is impossible to read, mostly because it doesn’t change at all. Finally, he closes his eyes and adjusts his glasses that dorky yet adorable way he always does, pushing on the edges with his thumb and middle finger. When he’s finished adjusting them, he gives Rin a sidelong glance.
"You’re not just in it for the money?" he asks slowly.
"Oh, come on, I just told you money doesn’t really matter to me," Rin shoots back, frowning. "It’s not your money I’m attracted to, it’s you. I’m not a gold digger.”
Ryugazaki stands up, making his way into the kitchen. He returns with two glasses of barley tea, his beverage of choice for these play dates, handing one to Rin. He sits down once more, this time on the sofa next to Rin. They’ve never sat this close before, other than on the park bench that first time they met.
"Would you mind telling me what it is about me that you find so attractive?" Ryugazaki asks at length, gazing intently at Rin.
The redhead takes a sip of his tea and twirls the glass around slowly, carefully. He should have expected Ryugazaki to be this blunt about things. He hasn’t ever tried to put into words just what about Ryugazaki he likes. Sighing, he shrugs a bit.
"For one thing, you’re an incredible father, in your own way," Rin tells him. "We have different parenting styles, but both seem to work pretty well. Kazuaki is a great kid. Good parenting skills are something I look for in all the people I might potentially date." He turns to face Ryugazaki more fully, taking another sip of tea. "But that’s not all, obviously. I admire your intelligence, as well. We’ve had some of the most interesting conversations I’ve ever had in my life. And you’re not bad looking, either."
“‘Not bad looking’?” Ryugazaki asks, raising an eyebrow once more.
"You’re attractive, okay? Sheesh, do I have to spell it out for you?" Rin rubs the back of his neck, glancing away. "I really like your eyes. And I like your name, too. That sounds superficial and weird, but I like your given name. Rei. It sounds nice."
"Well. I would be willing to give it a try."
"You make it sound so…business-like. Do you like me, or not? Don’t force yourself just because I mentioned it."
Ryugazaki takes the glass from Rin and sets it on the coffee table in front of the sofa, setting his own glass there, as well. He places a hand on Rin’s thigh and leans toward him. Their lips meet before Rin really registers what’s going on. Ryugazaki’s hand slides up his thigh, stopping just short of his groin. After a few minutes, the megane breaks the kiss, but doesn’t move his hand.
"Does that answer your question?" he murmurs, meeting Rin’s eyes.
"I…I don’t know," Rin replies breathlessly, smirking a bit. "I might need you to repeat that."
The corners of Ryugazaki’s mouth turn up in a small smile. He leans forward once more, pressing his lips to Rin’s. Rin opens his mouth to accept the kiss; their lips move against one another slowly, passionately. They make out like that for nearly half an hour before pulling away from one another when they hear two sets of footsteps coming down the stairs.
Izumi and Kazuaki convince Rin and Ryugazaki to play a game with them, and the rest of the play date is monopolized by the kids. By the time Rin and Izumi are headed back home, though, the two single fathers have set up a date for just the two of them for later that week. Rin keeps staring at the appointment in his phone. The end of the week can’t come quickly enough.
