Fenris knows. And he also knows that if the words were actually spoken he could never accept them as they were. But he knows through a different language, that’s sometimes easier to miss as Hawke looks out for him and through it all stands by him.

Even when they disagree over something, usually mages, Hawke will make it up with a look and a smile. I’m still with you

When Fenris can say “I am yours,” Hawke moves back to walk by his side, making sure their shoulders touch, their hands brush together. I will never hurt you.

Fenris ventures to say “If there is a future to be had i will walk into it gladly at your side.” Their lips crash together, desperate and aching for the other. Neither can tell who moved first but they hold on to each other with everything they almost let pass them by. Let’s never do that again.

Fenris pleads with Hawke and asks, “Promise me you won’t die?” And Hawke replies “I don’t make that promise unless you do,” Reaching out for him even as Fenris raises his own arm to Hawke’s hair. You mean every thing to me.

When the battle is over, their friends looking for the next step after the long mission is done, Fenris hovers hesitantly. He has no more part to play. Suddenly Hawke has pulled Fenris into a close embrace, heads resting against each other and breathing in rhythm. Pulling apart they look into each others eyes and Hawke grins “So where are we going next? You followed me for 10 years, your turn to come up with ideas.” And I am yours
