Hi Mr Gaiman! Recently I saw a video were they claimed that Dog the hell hound actually bit David Tennant and had to be somewhat replaced with cgi, is that true?

Avatar

No. Ollie the dog absolutely bit David Tennant. He wasn't really replaced with CGI for the rest of the episode as his part in the UK was done, although there might have been a shot or two on the airbase after that where we composited Ollie in. The later scenes in Episode 6 had already been shot.

A couple of months later we shot the end of Episode 3 scene in Adam's bedroom in South Africa and we needed a Dog in it. But we couldn't have brought Ollie to South Africa anyway. Instead we used A Local Dog that looked a lot like Ollie. And we used make up and maybe even a tiny bit of CGI to make him look more like Ollie.

Hi Neil! Something I've always wanted to know is whether you had to do reshoots for either series of Good Omens?

If you did, how did you co-ordinated those, particularly around David and Michael and the hair transformations they have to go through for their roles?

I also imagine you might have had to extend the fennec foxes' contracts, which must have been arduous.

No, we never did. Douglas Mackinnon is an excellent director and we got it all the first time.

(Ollie the doggo was trained to bit Famine and got a bit mixed up when the first time David as Crowley threw back his arms and stopped time)

Hello Mr. Gaiman I was just wondering, wouldn’t it have been easier for Crowley and Aziraphale to instill a fear of dogs in the Antichrist (possibly to the point of trauma)? That way he wouldn’t even want to go near the hellhound, let alone name it. (I know it’s the story you co-created so you could do with it what you want, but I was wondering if there was a reason.)

It never occurred to them. I don't think either of them would really go a bundle on traumatising children. They prefer not-traumatising children.

And at the point where Crowley and Aziraphale learned about the Hellhound, they only had a few days to deal with it, and at that point they simply had to hope that the Antichrist would send the dog away.

Do we know if Adam still has his powers?

Hiya, yeah, I think he does ;))

Dog," said Adam, sternly, "get away from that hedge, because if you went through it, then I'd have to chase you to catch you, and I'd have to go out of the garden, and I'm not allowed to do that. But I'd have to . . . if you went an' ran away."

Dog jumped up and down excitedly, and stayed where he was.

Adam looked around, carefully. Then, even more carefully, he looked Up, and Down. And then Inside.

Then . . .

And now there was a large hole in the hedge-large enough for a dog to run through, and for a boy to squeeze through after him. And it was a hole that had always been there.

Adam winked at Dog.

Hi! All the best to you! I remember from somewhere (maybe credits?) that Dog is played by two different pups - one in England and one in South Africa. Do you know what scenes with him were shot in Africa (if were at all)? And in what scenes was he CGIed after The Accident (David told there were such scenes). My Prime subscription expired and I’m struggling.

Hiya! :) Yes, in the most of the scenes with Dog is played by Ollie,

but they hadn’t managed to film the scenes in Adam’s bedroom in UK until the shooting moved to South Africa and so they had to film them there. Ollie couldn’t travel there, so there is another dog in those scenes that happen in Adam’s bedroom (such as ep2, ep3 or ep6) :).

Neil talks about the CGI Ollie here. :)

look man, i just gotta ask, was ollie a good boy? he looked like a real good boy, and without confirmation i may go batshit.

He was.

But he bit David Tennant in the leg at the airfield, the first time David as Crowley threw back his arms and stopped time.

(Not his fault. He’d been trained to bite Famine, and got a bit mixed up.)
