“I’m gonna be Queen Hooker!”
Pretty much a GPOY of me every time I’m out and talk to someone in the smoking area.
Well, that just hits close to home, doesn’t it?
Charlie: Take your fuckin’ hands off me and I’ll take it fuckin’ easy! Seth: Stay put? Charlie: Don’t fuckin’ order me around! Seth: I’m taking them off. Please don’t go back outside. What happened? Charlie: Cocksucker stepped on my toe.
“If you keep it up, we’re going to fight, and you’ll have to work by yourself while I convalesce.”
“I drink what I’m able. If that comes to much, that’s the day’s affair and the liquor’s.”
Charlie Utter, Deadwood episode 3.12: Tell Him Something Pretty (via givemesomethinganything)
It’s hard to pick a favorite character from David Milch’s show Deadwood. Charlie Utter (the man who plays Wild Bill Hickock’s partner in the show and who does the ethical thing (as he almost always does) in this scene) was always on the list for me. This scene sent him soaring towards the top of that list. I can only imagine how long the writing staff sat around on this one, re-writing every last word until it was near perfect, cadence and all.
You really have to watch the whole episode (and for that matter the season…and the series) to understand the full breadth of what happens in this scene, but the looks of quiet satisfaction on the faces of some of the characters at the end of it tell a lot. This scene, and so many others are the reason why this show was one of the best things ever created, on television or in any medium.
“If I could, I’d tear my skin off. If I could, I’d put out my eyes. I hate being sick.”
- “It was a man named Wolcott killed them.”
- “Why?”
- “I don’t know that. I’m not a man.
This is secret, Charlie. It’s only between us. I told you as a friend.”
- “And that’s how I heard it. I’m your friend. Don’t ever walk past me.”

So many great pairings on that show. But those two are by far my favourites. Or is it Merrick/Blasanov? Or Aunt Lou/Richardson? No, no. It’s Charlie/Joanie!!!!!!
These two are my favourite.
it’s like they called each other the night before to coordinate their facial hair.
