Fuck yeah, Betsy Wolfe!

A fan-run appreciation blog dedicated to the lovely and talented Betsy Wolfe. Sidebar and icon photography by Matthew Murphy. Betsy was seen last season as Ellen in the new musical adaptation of Woody Allen's Bullets Over Broadway, following much critical acclaim as Cathy Hyatt in the 2013 Off-Broadway revival of The Last Five Years and as Rosa Bud in the 2012 Broadway revival of The Mystery of Edwin Drood.

The Music Man: In Concert

5/3/15 - Music Hall in Cincinnati, OH

Will Chase, Betsy Wolfe, Pamela Myers, Patricia Linhart, Trent Donk, Ben Biggers,  Allison Edwards, Michael Marotta,Barry Mulholland , Teresa Beschman, Libby McCord, John Morris Russell, Vivien Carmichael, Susan Nemenz, Wilbur Pauley, Erich Buchholz, Eric Edlund, Drew Ochoa.

Note: FInal performance of this condensed version of “The Music Man”. Several things were not in the show such as the Wan Tan Yee girls and the Tommy/Zeeneta story line, which in my opinion tightened the show and made it move a lot faster. Recorded from the front row, so the quality is wonderful.

On March 30, MCC Theater presented Miscast, an annual benefit in which Broadway stars perform songs from musical roles that they would be very unlikely to land in real life. Uzo Aduba, Laura Benanti, Jessie Mueller, Annaleigh Ashford, Christopher Fitzgerald, Joshua Henry and Jeremy Jordan were all in on the evening's fun. In this exclusive look at the event, Betsy Wolfe performs "Let It Sing" from Violet — and gets a little musical help from one of the show's stars.

The Mercedes event going on this weekend isn't the only marathon in town. Just ask Adam Kantor, who, with Betsy Wolfe, will be performing "The Last Five Years" at Red Mountain Theatre Company with Tony Award-winning composer Jason Robert Brown at the piano. It's the story of Jamie, a writer, and Cathy, an actress, with Jamie telling their story in chronological order and Cathy telling it backward. "It's the most rigorous thing I've sung for sure," says Kantor, who has appeared on Broadway in "Rent" and "Next to Normal." "For both roles, it's a vocal marathon, and that's how we treat it. It's like running a marathon." Kantor and Wolfe have run this marathon together before. They starred in the acclaimed 2013 Off-Broadway revival of Brown's intensely personal musical. "Oh, it's exhausting," Wolfe says with a laugh. "It's two one-person shows in a way. Yes, there are two people on stage, but the load of material, about 10 songs each, it's 10 marathons. There's no one song that you think, 'Oh, this is a breeze.' Every song you go out there for is like a one-act play. It's so satisfying when you do this show."

The tribute will feature appearances by Jennifer Garner and Alessandro Nivola as well as performances by Laura Benanti, Kristin Chenoweth, Alan Cumming, Santino Fontana, Victor Garber, Donna Murphy, Kelli O'Hara, Alessandro Nivola, Laura Osnes, and Betsy Wolfe. Wolfe also made a big splash Off-Broadway in the 2013 revival of “The Last Five Years,” which has been turned into a movie (opening in limited release Feb. 20) starring Anna Kendrick and Jeremy Jordan. Wolfe has a memorable cameo as a stripper with a snake named Wayne. “They asked if I’d be willing to appear in a bra and willing to handle a live snake,” Wolfe says. “Normally, either one of those would have been terrifying. But I just did it.” She will reprise her role in “The Last Five Years,” joined by her co-star, Adam Kantor, in a concert version at San Francisco’s American Conservatory Theatre that will play three performances March 27-28. She plans at her Visalia concert to offer an eclectic program. “I wanted to do material that represented what inspired me growing up,” says Wolfe, who graduated from Golden West High School in 2000 and the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music in 2004. Along with musical-theater offerings, the audience will be treated to mainstream songs from Billy Joel and Peter, Paul and Mary, among others. “I took countless family car trips with Bonnie Raitt’s ‘Something to Talk About’ playing on cassette,” she says. Looking ahead, Wolfe has roles in two potential Broadway productions percolating. (She can’t name titles just yet.) One is built around her in a starring role. “The (creative) team has a magnificent pedigree, and I pinch myself thinking I get to work with these people,” she says. Sounds like there are great things to come.

"When we did the revival I was still living in Los Angeles and I had been for nine years, so a lot of the younger, talented singers in town I didn’t know. I showed up at auditions just sort of saying, ‘Show me what you’ve got.’ They were names I recognized, but I didn’t recognize the people. Betsy was probably the fifth or sixth person who came in and I said after she left, ‘Well, that’s it, that’s Cathy.’"
