I know you played Bastard of Camelot, even though it was a while ago, can we hear about your Mordred? 👀

Also, have you played any other games like this? I know Guenevere is a similar game that’s also v popular

I played Guinevere ages ago and I really really enjoyed it. I generally like those text choice games! I tried some of the other arthurian videogames (the King Arthur war game similar to Age of Empire, the Sword Legacy Omen and Pendragon). I really enjoyed Pendragon (by Inkle), it is a short and surprisingly rich game where you can control different characters to stop Mordred! IT IS HARD THO, I don't think I ever won.

Sword Legacy Omen seemed interesting, but I actually returned it (on steam). I was not in the mood because it seemed quite generic, and I dislike games with perma-death.

In general I am very very picky with games, and I usually play only rpg, so it is hard to find a good arthurian one.

BUT YEAH I LOVED BASTARD OF CAMELOT!!! My Mordred was a little shit, but idealistic. So he wanted to make his mom happy, but also was angry... and yet hopeful, towards Arthur. He liked Galahad also, and was kind of antagonistic towards him for a while.

MAKES ME WANT TO PLAY IT AGAIN

Inkle’s PENDRAGON giveaway!

I recently played this amazing arthurian game by probably one of my favorite videogame companies (Inkle). The game is based on Camlann/the end of Arthur’s kingdom, and you will choose an arthurian character to recruit allies and get to Camlann where you will have to side with Arthur and help him against Mordred. The game starts with Lancelot or Guinevere, but you will be able to unlock more characters with more play-throughs. Inkle is also great at making their games extremely replayable, and I did about 5 playthroughs (the game is pretty short) and I still feel like I have so much to discover!

The game works a bit like chess, with some dialogue (and some interesting things happening!).

The game will be out the 22nd of September for STEAM

GIVEAWAY

Because I already have a copy, but I also want to support them, I decided that the 22 of September I will buy the steam version of the game and gift it to a random person (selected through one of those randomized lists maker: selecting the first name).

How to partecipate:

This will be ongoing up till the 21st of September, so all reblogs post 21nd of September won’t be participating.

The only thing I’d love in exchange for the game is that you leave an honest review for Pendragon on the steam page!

(Warning!! Possible issues: if the game is not available in your country, I fear I won’t be able to gift it, or if the price difference is more than 20% between the price of the game in Australia and your country. I that case I will have to move to another user :(  )

Pendragon Inkle

Just some general points about the game!

First of all. I am loving this! The tutorial makes it pretty easy to understand the mechanism. Second: the music is AMAZING and gives me flashbacks from Sorcery! (some tracks are the same, as they are from the same company) and Sorcery! is probably one of my favorite games ever so- A+.

Third: You can start with different characters but need to unlock them through playthroughs. Guinevere and Lancelot are the unlocked ones, and I honestly can’t to see WHO ELSE IS THERE.

And, we already know the game is post-Mordred’s betrayal and all about Camlann.

Useless rpgs recs not really recs. Upcoming rpgs for 2020

Pendula Swing: The Complete Journey = this game is already out in episodes, but soon the whole game will come out as one! It’s a an amazing game, isometric adventure set in a 1920s inspired fantasy world (and with great lgbtq+ representation).

The Waylanders = an isometric rpg with time travelling, companions and romance!

GameDec = cyberpunk rpg where you solve crimes! Very decision and choices heavy and probably the one I am looking forward to the most after Waylanders.

Zoria: Age of Shattering =  This is an isometric rpg, not a lot of info out.

The Iron Oath = a pixel-arty isometric rpg, with turn based combat with the promise of party characters with personalities and banter!

Project Witchstone = another isometric rpg with turn based combat, this one does not have a lot of story or plot information out, but it seems to be very decision/choices and consequences focused. And you might play as two characters.

Death Trash = pixel art, isometric rpg in a post apocalyptic world. This is here because they promised me I could talk to monster and not kill them!

Baldur’s Gate 3 = apparently… it’s arriving in 2020??

Colony Ship = isometric and party based, 12 recruitable companions!, turn based combat, space ships!

Dark Envoy =   my pc couldn’t play Tower of Time but it was a great game up till I could play it, and now the same developers are creating Dark Envoy. This isometric rpg seems to be more inspired by Divinity Original Sin and I remember really enjoying the combat and the story of Tower of Time.

Tainted Grail = inspired and reimagining of arthurian legends, party based isometric rpg where you have to investigate what is happening to Avalon post-King Arthur.

Gatewalkers = I added this game before realizing it’s an RPG Co-Op… so… ignore this, I suppose, unless you really love cooperative games.

Realms Beyond = classic DnD inspired isometric rpg set in a fantasy world. You play with a party of companions, but there shouldn’t be too much interactions between you and your companions (the creators said that it’s at the level of Baldur’s Gate 1, not Baldur’s Gate 2).

The Hand of Merlin = this arthurian inspired rpg has been in development for a long time, but has recently seen some new updates so there are hopes for 2020.

The Way of Wrath = party based turn based rpg where you have to lead your people to safety! It seems to be very story heavy, and similar to Expeditions: Viking.

Three future arthurian games!

The Hand of Merlin

Tainted Grail

and an unnamed game by the company Inkle.
