Arthurian Legends

@fuckyeaharthuriana / fuckyeaharthuriana.tumblr.com

👑 A blog about arthurian legends, from books to tv shows and more! I enjoy making lists, Mordred, finding rare arthurian media, Kay and reading and collecting arthuriana.
🏰 Maintaining this blog since 2010.

I'm crying. Jaufre might be the wildest tale in the Matthews' translation collections. Arthur jumping on a beast, and being dragged away. Kay almost fainting, all the knights taking off their clothes to make some kind of cushion at the bottom of a cliff in case Arthur falls.

And that is just the funny intermission before the actual story starts

I’m the anon that asked for recs. Thank you!! I will check them out. Mordred is the character I’m interested in so if you have more recs about him, I’d love it it. But I will start on your list. Thank you again!

Wohoo another Mordred fan!! Enjoy the recs!

I just shared this as well:

Also in my opinion "Idylls of the queen" is the best Mordred book out there! How I did it when I started was also to jump immediately in non long books (ex. I avoided trilogy) and instead get my arthurian surroundings from movies. Most of the novels that are not "historical" will be set in a general "Morte d'Arthur by Thomas Malory"-like world, so good options are:

  • Sword in the Stone (Disney) + Camelot (1967)
  • The Legend of King Arthur tv series 1979

Or if you check the list of everything I added some radio drama, I think these are pretty good and if I remember correctly they narrate a big chunks of general THWhite or Malory-like arthuriana:

The tv show list is also completely updated! You can find it here!

I added tv shows, miniseries, anime and webseries. I did not have many updates, but these are the new things you will find if you compare it with the old version:

Webseries (they are linked to the youtube page within the descriptions):

  • 2018 The Campaign for Camelot
  • 2017 Legend
  • 2016 Rex
  • 2013 Mordred

Tv show/anime

  • 2023-ongoing: Four Knights of the Apocalypse (sequel of Nanatsu no Taizai, it focuses on actual arthurian characters)
  • 2023 (cancelled) The Winter King
  • 2019 Fate/Grand Order Babylonia
  • 2017 Fate/stay night [Heaven's Feel]
  • 2014 Fate/Stay Night: Unlimited Blade

Everything is in chronological order.

Please, if you see anything I missed, let me know! I am always happy to find new media.

Do you have any recommendations for books about Galahad or that have a nice characterization of him?

YES!

Sadly not too many, but my favourite are:

  • Lehmann's Blessed Bastard is my favourite Galahad book overall and Galahad is actually the protagonist
  • The Doom of Camelot by Lowder has a lot of nice short stories, and a couple of them have Galahad!
  • The Forever King trilogy by Cohran and Murphy... the first book is VERY dear to me and has an amazing protagonist Galahad. The writing kind of went downhill in the rest of the trilogy, when the authors split up
  • Bernard Cornwell's series also has Galahad among the protagonists
  • Douglas' Lancelot Her Story and especially the sequel have a great Galahad (actually I think Galahad only appears in the sequel)
  • Mists of Manhattan (Michele Lang) also has some Galahad crumbs
  • The Book of Galahad by Susan Cook is… okay, I admit I don't even remember it, but I gave it 2/5 stars so, I would not hold my breath for some stellar Galahad characterization
  • Galahad: Enough of His Life to Explain His Reputation by Erskine is mainly about Lancelot and Guinevere but Galahad is there

Trying to go back to reading - currently reading the Enderal (non arthurian, videogame) book and the Critical Role novel about Mollymauk so - I was wondering, are there any good new Mordred novels that came out in the past three years?

I also have Guinevere deception and Lancelot by Giles Kristian read to go as my next arthurian reads!

If you are that amazing person who contacted on my gmail to let me know of all the amazing queer characters in "The Guinevere deception".... just know that I lost access to that email. Which means I won't be able to look back at the list you sent me :(

if you see this, please contact me here!!

that was the email which drive had the arthurian list of everything (https://fuckyeaharthuriana.tumblr.com/post/617369522455855104/arthurian-list-of-everything) which means that I will have to reupload that on a new account to be able to actually update it.
