NYX #5 SPOILERS
what did you think of #2? (spoilers below)
i think it was a decent read, i liked that scene with the mean interviewer and alison standing up for herself, but so far, i'm personally finding it a bit hard to get engaged in the plot — the writers are trying to create tension and conflict all right, but it doesn't feel... organic? maybe it's because it seems a bit too convenient to come up with an anonymous villain who wants to disrupt alison's world tour using minor villains as contractors just because...
what i do appreciate is the artstyle, alison's impeccable outfits, and her friendship with domino. i just wish they'd have alison interact with more well-known characters, she feels a bit detached from the overall earth 616 scene, but on a second thought, this was also par for the course in the original dazzler solo run and she deserves a break from the superheroics to focus on her music, i guess. what do you think?
The book is okay, I guess. It's a plot that has been done before, but considering what happened with the fall of Krakoa? It feels a little disconnected. I know there has been time that's passed, but it's a lot of handwaving. Modern comics do this a lot, and it drives me insane. They tend to develop relationships, plots, reactions and many other aspects off panel. I really dislike it, and miss when things could be fleshed out. I am hoping the random villain after Alison is her sister, but I would be very surprised if it was.
I am happy she is in something that is not god awful, but it's a little mediocre plot wise. I like seeing Lila show up, as I feel like everyone always forgets her friends? Lila, Betsy, Storm, and Rogue to name a few. I feel like this probably would have worked better as a series than just a mini. She could explore moments like these, plus other plots with the rest of the Marvel cast. Domino is a fun addition.
I do think this issue was better than the first one, and I'm interested to see how she and Lila bounce off each other.
In order to save the future, the Formerly-Dead X-Men (with the help of Rachel Summers) drag Cyborg-Moira back to her timeline. Rachel Summers and Cyborg-Moira have a psychic chat. By now Rachel knows of Xavier's plan to kill young Moira so she's done wasting time on Cyborg-Moira. Rachel throws her and the team back to Moira Engine Life 2.4 timeline where Abigail Brand and the AU Starjammers are in the post-apocalyptic future.
As soon as they land in the timeline, Cyborg-Moira and the Formerly-Dead X-Men fight, Dazzler takes a deathly blow while trying to protect Prodigy from Cyborg-Moira's scythe. While the Formerly-Dead X-Men and Cyborg-Moira are fighting, they did not notice Orbis Stellaris is hovering above them. Orbis spots Prodigy and uses his energy-like tentacles to reach for the M'kraan crystal shard in Prodigy's chest. Frenzy, Cannonball and Jubilee are engaged in a battle with Cyborg-Moira when the Starjammers ship comes in. Dazzler opens her eyes and gets up to shoot Cyborg-Moira with her laser. Dazzler explains to her teammates that her "immortality" has limits. According to Dazzler, she could revive herself from her flesh wound (as long as her entire body is not affected) but she cannot revive when she was smashed to the pulp by Nimrod. To resurrect herself, Dazzler has to take in the sound/sonic energy around her to make her recover. Meanwhile, Orbis Stellaris takes the M'Kraan Crystal shard from Prodigy's chest and throws him to the ground where Frenzy catches him just in time. The Formerly-Dead X-Men teleport themselves back to their original timeline while Orbis Stellaris tries to ascend to Dominionhood only to find there's a Dominion already there blocking him. As for Cyborg-Moira, she is finally killed by the AU Juggernaut who avenges the deaths of his friends.
