Via Flickr: Spend a few hours here today, shooting photos and freezing various extremities. This is actually a stairwell. There are some occasional steps, portions of railings, etc.
Via Flickr: Sept. 15th 2013 shooting at the church.... The signs of scrapping and vandals are increasing. Missing stairs, enlarged holes, broken windows. The list goes on.
Via Flickr: This building has been closed and abandoned for decades. It's considered a local eyesore, and has claimed at least two lives over the years. The floors are sagging, and the building is simply defying gravity. Gaping holes in the walls and floors, plus the scrappers are taking everything in sight. Stairs, cabinets - you name it. Access to the upper levels was pretty easy, but thew stairs used to access the first levels are now gone. The massive basement(s) now contain storm run-off and ground water and are the unofficial storm retention pond for the area, holding several billion gallons of water. The city has also announced plans to demolish the complex, and even held a "demolition ground breaking" ceremony in March of 2013.
