Via Flickr: This was the second stop of our Saskatchewan day-trip. The pastel colours of the scene were just beautiful, with the sky trying to open up after some freezing rain had fallen (and more would fall while I was taking this photo, which forced me to run to my car to grab a hood so my glass would stay dry). The temperature was just below 0ºC (32ºF), but the wind made it feel like we were inside the arctic circle. Please view full screen.

Via Flickr: Upper Hunter Valley, NSW, Australia - just off the Golden Highway, between Cassilis and Merriwa. My son and I visited a friend in outback NSW and covered 1500km in a hire car over 2 days on the road. We spotted this old farmhouse about 200km in to our trip and on the way back home I found it again and decided it was a good place for a rest-stop. The farmhouse was located on a hillside in the middle of planted wheatfields and obviously hadn't been used for quite a while. It was a very peaceful place and watching the shadows of the clouds gently rolling across the scene was very relaxing.

Cinders by jamescharlick on Flickr.

Via Flickr: The quarry on this site dates back to 1851 and cement was manufactured since at least 1898. These workings date from 1949 and ceased production in 1991. Cement was fired in two vast 350ft kilns, and most of the site is dominated by the two huge parallel tubes suspended on an impressive concrete frame above the factory floor. It was an odd experience walking alone through such an imposing space. This was compounded by the cars and vans parked below and the lorries in rows outside - the site opposite is still live and they obviously stored vehicles here - giving the workings the feeling that everyone had simply downed tools and gone home for the weekend to return again Monday morning. website | etsy | 500px | tumblr

Via Flickr: In the background is Castle Rock, Idaho. I had camped there and was headed down the road to go into City of Rocks National Park and saw this great view out my rear view window so pulled over and *snap*
