You’re family, kid. And we look out for our own.
Hey @frozen-delight, I love to read your meta, and one of them is sexual violence for dean and sam, and strangely enough, dean got assault by not only women but men too, i assume you didnt really like s13, but other than 6.05 where dean got turned by vampire (which in your meta you wrote that it was rape scene, and i agree) in 13.02 dean blatantly get assaulted by demon mook, and the scene resembles rape scene too(wth?) complete with the setting is in motel bedroom.. what are your thought?
Hi, I usually have a policy of answering all asks privately, but since I wanted to get some other people’s opinions on this topic, I hope you won’t mind me publishing this.
I assume you’re talking about this meta post and the following scene from The Rising Son:
In my opinion it’s difficult not to get a sexual vibe from the scene in which Boris turns Dean in Live Free or Twihard, because there’s close physical contact, a focus on body orifices and the exchange of fluids, and because the way it’s presented visually is extremely intimate - lots of close-ups, soft lighting etc.
I can’t really detect any of these three elements in the fight scene in The Rising Son. The demon who attacted Dean dumps him on the bed, but doesn’t hold him down or hover right over him - otherwise we never would have gotten the beautiful full-body shot above. *g* There are no close-ups, the lighting is harsh - just look at the stark contrast the shadow of the blinds give us.
Compare another motel scene, again with Dean being thrown onto a bed, which in my opinion reads much more like a rape scene:
Of course the difference to Boris’ attack on Dean is that Ruby actually ends up saving Dean’s life in Malleus Maleficarum. But when we watch the episode for the first time we don’t know that yet.
Next to that the fight scene in The Rising Son strikes me as pretty tame. You are welcome to disagree with me, obviously. We all have different backgrounds and see different things. I remember discussing Claire’s portrayal in Ladies Drink Free with @wednesdayspn, who found that it sexualised teenage girls in a most disturbing fashion, whereas I considered it about as non-sensual as TV as a medium can ever get. These different impressions can co-exist side by side.
I’d welcome further input on the interpretation of the scene in The Rising Son, but please refrain from trying to establish a connection between sexual assault and Dean’s sexual preferences, unless you want to out yourself as a bigoted, sexist jerk and get blocked.
No one can tell me that this isn’t passionate fan Dean Winchester criticising the casting for a live-action Lion King movie.
