This might have been my favourite shot of the entire episode. We didn’t get a mirror sot of Dean this season yet. To me this one counted as one though. Because that is Dean essentially facing up to himself, to his darkness, what he became. In 10x05 “Fan Fiction” he confirmed that he considered himself to have been (or still being depending on whether or not you think he is fully cured) a Knight of Hell. Here he comes face to face with an armor. One knights used to wear and we see him take a good hard look. And with that a good hard look at himself. A look into his darkness. And he examines it, with caution, as if he tries to find out himself whether he is all back or not. Until it gets too much, he closes his eyes, shuts the blinds of the helmet so to speak. Shutting out those nasty thoughts and feelings, the same way he shuts down in the car and turns up the radio. And you what I find most gorgeous about this shot? The camera work. We don’t see Dean gazing into the blackness, but the blackness gazing into him. That same blackness, darkness that would later take over and cause him to shoot the shifter multiple times. No, Dean Winchester isn’t out of the woods by a long shot.

In the beginning, Dean used to wear clothes that were practical and not much else. He used to feel (and look) uncomfortable in suits. He called himself “ridiculous” in a tuxedo in Red Sky at Morning. I love that he’s come to enjoy wearing nice clothes that fit him, make him look good and even more importantly – make him feel good.
