This blog's purpose is to act as an archive of resources pertaining to gardening, nature, sustainability, permaculture, environmentalism, anti-capitalism, and the solarpunk movement. The owner of this blog will refer to themselves only as Dandelion. Dandelion believes that hoping the rich and powerful change their ways is a waste of time. They have shown how much they really care which is not at all. We must force the change ourselves as a community. This means we do not ask permission before we act. We must simply act.

The resources found on this blog are meant to educate, motivate, and inspire new ideas. Submissions are open if any who come across this archive have knowledge or resources they wish to share.

As a society we have done thistles so dirty. Not even pollinator-plant zealots recommend planting thistles even though pollinators go absolutely crazy over them.

I saw 2 (two) Great Spangled Fritillaries trying to cram themselves onto the same thistle flower today as well as a thistle plant with multiple American Bumblebees on it. These things are a monarch magnet too.

I've started to actually get excited for school starting, I spend a lot of time online reading scientific papers about my favorite weeds, and I think I want to study weeds forever.

Apparently it's an ongoing mystery why dandelions in North America are so diverse, when all dandelions that have been found so far are apomicts that reproduce only by cloning themselves.

However, any given site will have many distinct dandelion genotypes, with many different traits.

For example, a site might have one dandelion strain that blooms primarily in fall, and another that blooms primarily in spring.

One theory is that there's new genetic information constantly coming in from Eurasia somehow. Apparently dandelion seeds can spread on the wind 150 KILOMETERS! Perhaps some are just blown across the ocean in a storm? But if that's the case, why weren't dandelions found all over North America already when European settlers came?

The other theories are that there are sexually reproducing dandelions here that we just haven't found yet, and that they somehow make new diversity very rapidly purely through mutations and recombination and such.

imagine how much quicker and more efficient public transport would be if it didn't contain the bottleneck of paying fare at the front? if people could just shuffle on and find their seats instead of forming and waiting in a queue? if you could board the bus from the side door as well as the front door? imagine what better things those schmucks working fare enforcement could be doing with their lives.

imagine how much easier it would be for victims of domestic abuse if housing was free and guaranteed? if nobody was tied to their abuser through financial means and could just leave and start anew without fear of destitution? if childcare was a public resource given to everyone who has children instead of the sole responsibility of the two individuals that created the child?

imagine how many people we could feed if food was distributed directly for free as a matter of course instead of being shipped to stores to sit in purgatory on shelves until it's either bought, stolen, or thrown out because it didn't sell? imagine nobody ever having their life ruined because they were starving and shoplifted food to survive? imagine "shoplifting" (based as it may be now) becoming unheard of because there are no shops to lift from and everyone is already fed anyway?

capitalism kills innovation, and more importantly,

capitalism kills human beings.
