Why the Moonjumper x Grooves ship is such a cute concept and why my brain has decided I absolutely must ship it

Like, just...Grooves just sees Moon dancing? (probably to a catchy swing song like in one of my previous HCs) And he just realizes like "Oh??? I'm big love for this fancy ghost???" and Moonjumper finds out that he really enjoys Grooves' company? Like a whole lot?

(I’m sorry this took me awhile to answer) Ooo, I like this! Although in my personal opinion, they could all go to the same place as a family vacation. (Like at a beach, hotel, or something along those lines) Most of them don’t really travel often, but I’ll give it my best!

Hat Kid: This may come as a surprise to no-one, but her idea of a vacation is visiting another planet! Of course, it would probably be one that she already knows, so she can have time to relax. But she also enjoys going to huge tourists destinations, like the ones with a water park, amusement park, aquarium, sweet shop, the works. And of course, if it’s some place near water, swimming would be her favorite activity!

Bow Kid: She’s probably the camping type! Or perhaps she prefers glamping (which yes, that’s what it’s call), which is like camping but you get to stay in a cabin instead of a tent! Of course, she would have to go with Hat Kid, CC, and Mu, otherwise it just wouldn’t be as fun. But she enjoys do nature-like things like feeding ducks or fish, star-gazing, and going to a zoo if there are any close-by. She goes especially crazy at the petting zoos, as they’re her absolute favorite!

Mustache Girl: Anywhere with a hotel. For some reason, she’s oddly fascinated by them. She’ll immediately check out everything in the room CC books, jumping on the beds, watching TV when they’re not out and about. But other than that, she pretty much likes the same things Hat Kid does! (Except for the aquarium, with she finds a bit redundant) But one of her favorites the about vacation is the food. Depending on where they’re all going, CC and try and cook new and exciting things or take the girls to an interesting restaurant!

Mafia Boss: This might be a bit odd, but maybe he would “vacation” at the Nyakuza Metro? Anywhere where he can still conduct “business” is fine with him! But if he feels more like spoiling himself (which he almost always is), he’ll check out a room at the most expensive hotel, drink the most expensive wines, and go to the most expensive restaurants. As a boss of the Mafia would.

Cooking Cat: She enjoys traveling to different areas, so she can try all different kinds of recipes! Usually she’ll pick a place close to a beach, like a small beach town, she one of her favorite things is fish. But she also doesn’t mind going to different restaurants with her girls! (Now if only she convince Mu to go to a seafood restaurant)

Conductor: (Vacation? What’s that?) While it’s rare that he ever goes on vacation, since he’s such a busy movie director and all, it does happen! Usually after he’s already won the annual bird movie award, which figures. Then he’ll probably just check out a room at a cheap motel, just so he can get to whatever bar he travel for. But if he could, he’d definitely go on the Arctic Cruise again! That is, if only it doesn’t sink this time...

DJ Grooves: It’s odd, since he already lives in one, but chances are he’ll vacation to a huge city. (Somewhere similar to New York or Chicago) And he will definitely book a room at a good hotel and head to the nearest mall! That, plus make an appointment at a spa later in the day. Even though it’s a huge place, bustling with other people and cars, it make him feel at home! He doesn’t stay for long though, as he eventually gets a little homesick or a new idea for a possibly award-winning movie.

Snatcher: Since he’s a huge workaholic, and nothing is better than home-sweet-forest to him, he doesn’t really do the whole “vacationing” thing. But, secretly, when he’s piled with a bunch on contracts, he likes to daydream about his perfect vacation. Which is probably some place cold or snowy (which is odd), but he stays shut inside a cozy warm cabin. Most likely he would read the entire time, or get to sleep in an actual bed for once.

Moonjumper: He’s perfectly content where he is (at least, that’s what he says), but he always likes to reminisce about the time he was still living in the manor. Before Vanessa, it used to be quite the place! So if he could, somehow, he’d love nothing more than to visit a place similar to that! Drinking tea near a fireplace, reading a book, going out to a private garden just to look at the stars. To him, it’d be a dream come true~

The Maitlands (Adam & Barbara): Conductor and DJ Grooves! That’s right, Discotrain is in the AU!The Deetzes (Charles & Delia): So far, Cooking Cat and Empress!Otho: (The guy who tags along with Delia) Mafia Boss!Lydia: Hat Kid! (Don’t worry, her role is definitely going to be altered)

Juno: (The ghost who warns the Maitlands about Beetlejuice) Moonjumper!Beetlejuice: The one and only, Snatcher! (His character name is BetelSnatch)

Keep in mind, not all of these characters will act exactly like the characters in the movie. If anything, most of them will just act like their canon selves in-game. (With exceptions for Snatcher and Moonjumper, at least for now) And maybe I’ll try and find a way to add in Mu or Bow somewhere down the line???

Awww, poor birbs. I do feel like Conductor would absolutely hate going through molting, since he already doesn’t like being touched when he’s grumpy or in general. And Grooves would hate it because it would ruin his perfectly good looks. So I feel like the two wouldn’t make too much fun of each other during that time, and they would definitely help each other out with that! And all the other birds would give them plenty of space.

(You call me a coward again and this isn’t even angst related-) But honestly, Grooves is the perfect candidate for this!

So I know I’ve touched on the possible scenario of “What if every AHiT character was a magical girl?” before. But this one could be a little different! Perhaps since it’s only Grooves, maybe he would have to keep his identity a secret? So he’d be movie producer by day, crime-fighting magical girl by night! (Can you tell I’ve only watched like, one magical girl anime my entire life-) And yes, he can totally rock a dress.

Funny thing about this though, Conductor wouldn’t even know at first! He’d probably mention whatever Grooves’ hero name is in the local news paper, and Grooves would just smile and nod. Even though it would be painfully obvious that the hero is Grooves. (With only a costume change, different hairstyle, and different shades to tell the difference) And what’s even better, is that Conductor mentions to Grooves that he would “love to have a real magical superhero in one of his movies!” and Grooves just has to hold in his laughter.

And if we’re going the Discotrain route, perhaps Conductor has a crush on this mysterious hero? ;3

(Which is a very lovely sever, full of very lovely and talented people ;3) So I would like to dedicate this fic to them, for giving me such kind words and support! Seriously, you guys are the best ! Grooves had been extremely lucky to finally get to board Conductor’s train.

He could not recall a time when he was any luckier. Perhaps it could compare to when he had won the only award he had ever won legitimately. But then again that did not nearly compare to how lucky he had been when Conductor (albeit begrudgingly) finally accepted his money to let him board the Owl Express. Grooves had been asking to do it countless times, for years even, as he had never boarded the train before. And succeeding in doing so had seemed like winning the lottery to him then. But oh, how happy he was that Conductor had accepted at this exact point in time after all these years. It was almost perfect timing! At least for him, anyways.

He was sitting in one of the passenger booths, along with a few of his body-guard penguins. He had politely told them that they didn’t need to sit with him during the ride, but they had insisted. So for right now, a pair of them were playing a simple card game between themselves. (With another two out exploring the other train cars for any “danger”) They had been riding the train for quite some time now. And Grooves sighed to himself as he stared outside the window of the train car. The desert’s night sky was rather lovely and truly a sight to be admired. And the train was going at a rather smooth and steady pace.

Unlike his own heartbeat, that is.

Honestly I am all for DJ Grooves winning the award and feeling horribly guilty for what happened when he snapped when he comes back to his senses. In my headcanon, because of this, he is now the first to do something to help if Hat Kid is ever in danger. (also i love that this has been a popular topic in the fandom recently)

Oh heck yeah! He feels more than guilty, not to mention it brings up a lot of tension. Not just between Hat Kid, but also Conductor. Conductor could have almost seen why Grooves would want to take back the awards that he cheated to get. But for Grooves to bring out his aggression on a child, because of their rivalry? Oh boy, does Conductor tear him a new one after that fight. Especially if Grooves had to use the Time Piece to bring Hat Kid back, then he’d be double pissed.

Grooves would most certainly try to be a better person after that whole ordeal.

Oooooo, this one’s got potential! And it’s angsty, which just makes it even better!

Well, when Grooves finally get his hands on a Time Piece, I’d like to think that at first he was just going to win back one or two awards. Maybe the ones that Conductor actually cheated to get, and Grooves was still salty about. But since Time Pieces are magical objects, and only Hat Kid knows how to properly handle them, I’d like to think that Time Pieces have a tendency to corrupt the possessor (If they’re not careful and/or don’t know what they’re doing). It grants whatever wish the holder desires, but in turn it comes with a heavy cost. The possessor can become unbelievably greedy, losing all control and thought of reason. And that mixed in with Grooves’ rivalry towards Conductor? Yeah…it doesn’t end well for Hat Kid.

(As for the AU concept, I’ll have to put this under the cut)

I’m pretty sure almost everyone likes mac and cheese! Though that’s an oddly...specific request? But hey, I’m not complaining!

Well it’s obvious that the kids (Hat Kid, Bow Kid, and Mustache Girl) love the stuff! CC likes to make it for dinner or lunch, though she doesn’t like making it out of the box. She prefers fancy mac and cheese, with little bacon bits, garnishes, and real cheese in it! Mafia Boss probably doesn’t eat it often but prefers it with some sort of seafood. Conductor and Grooves might find it to be semi-decent, but certainly won’t turn it down. Snatcher might not like it since he rarely eats mortal food, but he’ll eat it with bacon! (And by eat it, I mean he’ll pick out all the bacon bits and leave the rest) And Moonjumper loves it just as much as the kids! It’s only Mafia Boss, Conductor, Grooves, and Snatcher who are kinda “eh” about eating it.

And I love it!!! Especially with hot dogs cut up in it! Yummy stuff~

Oh heck yeah!!! Getting some Discotrain HCs!!!

It’s been done before, but Conductor will steal Grooves’ clothes to try them on! He likes Grooves’ glasses and jacket the most! He did try the platforms shoes once, but then fell over when he tried to walk in them. Grooves has caught him doing this multiple times, and loves to tease him about it. Especially the platform shoes incident.
They preen each other and ruffle each others feathers when they cuddle~ (I share this HC with @ahatincrime, because it was their idea and it’s so pecking cute!!!)
They also make cute chirping or purring noises when the preen or show basic affection! Happy bird noises are best noises~
Whenever Conductor gets flustered, his neck feathers begin to fluff up, along with the rest of his body. Grooves also does this, but not nearly as often as Conductor! Grooves can fluster Conductor so much to the point where he’s just a little, yellow puffball of feathers in a suit.
Once they’re together, both of them influence each others choice of fashion! Conductor manages to get Grooves to wear more casual wear outside of work, not just in the comfort of his own home. And Grooves gets Conductor to wear more bold clothes, just nothing with glitter.
Grooves is much more open to flirting, and will flirt with Conductor every chance he gets. Whether it’s in private, public, or even at work, he is the master of pick-up lines and general affection! Conductor...not so much.
Though Conductor is not nearly as affectionate in public, he still has his moments. Whenever he and Grooves are alone, he likes rubbing cheeks or playfully nipping at Grooves’ feathers or beak. The second part is how he gets Grooves to be the flustered one~
Unfortunately, the two have very different tastes in food and music. No matter how hard they both try to enjoy it, Conductor hates fish and Grooves won’t be caught dead eating mice. And Conductor is more of a jazz or swing kind of person, while Grooves’ favorite genres are painfully obvious. But despite this, they respect their opposite tastes now that they’re together. (No matter how much they tease each other for it-)
On the subject of music, sometimes they even dance together! But they of course have to settle on something less up-beat, which leaves classical music or slow jazz. And they are both very good at it, with Conductor surprisingly light on his feet and Grooves able to match up all the turns and twists just right. But on a lazy night, or if they’re distracted by one another’s charm, they more or less just hug each other and sway and place than actually dance.
When it comes to Conductor’s grandchildren, Grooves is very good at taking care of them! Though they both do much better as a team, wrangling the children or getting them all to sleep at the appropriate time. Conductor is very surprised that Grooves works so well with children, but he’s mostly just grateful for the extra help!
Conductor drinks a lot less now that he’s with Grooves. That, of course, doesn’t stop him from popping open a bottle of scotch every now and then! But now it comes with a catch. If he’s going to get drunk, Grooves either has to supervise or get drunk with him. Usually if they’re at a bar, Grooves picks the first option. But if they’re home alone, or if it’s a holiday or special occasion, that’s when they get to drink themselves silly together!
They get to collaborate on movies now! Though to mix it up, Grooves will help with whatever Western movie Conductor is making, and Conductor will do the same with Grooves’ sci-fi movies. Both of these methods help them better understand each others working style, not to mention better strengthen their teamwork. Once, they even tied for the annual bird movie award on a collaboration project! They have a special case for that award, where everyone can see it in the studio!

AHIT Name Headcannons!

Had the idea to list all of my HC names for all the characters, because why not? Although some of these are totally adopted from other people’s HCs, I’m still using them because they just fit so well! So enjoy! ;)

Hat Kid: Harriet, but she mostly goes by her nickname “Hattie”!

Bow Kid: Beatrice, though she prefers to be called “Bettie”!

Mustache Girl: I feel like before her parents disappeared, her name used to be Elizabeth. But since that was when she was just a baby, and CC has adopted her now, Mu has decided her new name is Emily!

Mafia Boss: Literally has the name “Maverick”, which does not help his case in not seeming like a huge egotist and a stuck up. (No offense to anyone who has that name though)

Cooking Cat: In case anybody didn’t see it before, I feel like her name is Martha! Although she has no problem with people calling her “CC”.

Conductor: This might come a surprise to no one, but his name is Blake. What did you expect?

DJ Grooves: Percival. I know, that doesn’t seem like it fits at all does it? That’s why he likes to be called by “Grooves” and not by his real name. (His mother used to call him “Percy”, which he finds embarrassing) He probably changed his name to David at some point, or “Dave” for short, but you decide.

Snatcher/Moonjumper: The Prince’s name was Vincent! But since both of them share the same name, and Snatcher already claimed title as king, Moon tends to go by Victor! It helps avoid confusion.

I am…really tempted to do both. So y’know what? Frick it we’re doing both I make the rules here-

Hat Kid’s Birthday!

Everybody sets up a huge surprise party for her! And they either set it up in Mafia Town, Dead Bird Studio, or The Cruise. Although it’s most likely Dead Bird Studio, since there’s so much room in the underground part! Everyone makes sure to get the colorful decorations set up, with a banner, balloons, confetti canons and every thing! And most of the dessert set up are chocolate flavored, since that’s Hat Kid’s favorite!

Everyone suddenly “disappears”, leaving a single note on HK’s spaceship. She reads it, and it tell her to go to the lower levels of Dead Bird Studio. Which she does, only to be surprised by all of her friends! Even Snatcher and Mafia Boss made it! (Even though Snatcher plays it off and Mafia Boss was practically dragged there)

The party is awesome! There’s a huge dance floor with a disco ball, all the desserts are chocolate-flavored (HK’s favorite), and there are tons of party games to play! The birthday presents she receives are also fantastic! Though some of them are...more odd than the rest.

CC gifts her a cookbook for sweets and pastries. Mu gifts her manga or an anime DVD (one that she knows HK will love to death). Bow knits a corgi plushie or a special woolen hat for HK to wear. And DJ Grooves gives HK tons of candy and a pair of glittery star-shaped shades with an outfit to match.

Now onto the weird gifts. Mafia Boss gifts her a water gun shaped to look like a real gun. Conductor just gifts HK tickets to his latest movie. Snatcher gifts Hat Kid a huge book on law, with clerical supplies to go along with it. And Moonjumper gifts her a hand-made princess dress (one that’s a little too girly). And while the other gifts are weird, Hat Kid still has a wonderful birthday with all her friends!

Heck yeah! None of them are my original ideas though (except one), but I ship them all the same!

I ship Conductor x CC, which is better known as “SugarRush”. It’s adorable and I consider it to be canon (but only to myself). I love those two dorks, they’re so cute! Conductor being fluster while CC just rolls with it is so funny to me.

Second ship? Conductor x DJ Grooves isn’t too shabby. Very cutesy and fluffy, DiscoTrain content just makes me smile! Two gay birbs being absolute fools around each other. (PhantomExpress is good too, but I personally see Snatcher and Conductor being more along the lines of enemies)

And last? I’m not sure of this counts, but I kinda ship Moonjumper with a character in an random AU idea I had? It’s probably been done before, but imagine Moon going to an AU where Vanessa and the Prince’s roles were reversed! So he’d meet the “Moonjumper version” of Vanessa and they just instantly fall in love. ~~I need to make art for it though asdfghjk-~~

Probably the weirdest ones ever, but here’s what I think they’d be like!

Mafia Boss: Uhhh does a great grandpa count? He’s defiantly not “dad material” in any way, shape, or form. He’s more like a cranky old grandpa! ~~Who wants to kill kids for some reason~~

Cooking Cat: 100% the best mom and the only mom. Either that or an incredibly good nanny. And she’s not just a mom to the kids! She’s a mom to everybody.

Conductor: He claimed the role of “grandfather” before anyone else could stop him. (He’s only a dad to Mu) He’s the kind of family figure to pinch cheeks but at the same time teach you life skills. Also he says “back in my day” waaaaaay too often.

DJ Grooves: He considers himself to be “too fabulous” to be a grandpa, so he assume the role of uncle. You know, the kind who spoils the kids with trips to the movies and candy. But he knows the appropriate times of when to not do that, so no worries!

Snatcher: Weird mix between “dad” and “annoying sibling”. On one hand, he’ll take care of the kids when he’s asked to (aka- bribed with bacon) and do it...semi-well? But on the other, he’d be the kind to play the game of “I’m not touching you” and “keep away”.

Moonjumper: I’m not sure if baby-sitter would be the right term, but he mostly considers himself a dad! He’s usually the more soft-spoken kind though, so the kids can get away with a lot more when he’s around. Also he treats the kids like they’re much younger, even when they start growing.
