music monday
I’ve been playlsiting a little differently the past few weeks, thanks to a spontaneous shuffle of old school throwbacks. And it made me think of all the R&B Soul songs — especially the deep cuts — that work perfectly for my pairings and go completely overlooked because they don’t fit some pop or indie singer-songwriter mold. These boys are soulmates, don’t they deserve some soul music?
So today I submit a few of my very favorite ship inspiration jams, aka Tarlos & FirstPrince: The Soul Shipper Remix.
First up: the Alex Storms Kensington / Carlos Breakup Era anthem we all deserve:
Baby, it was uncool to love me, then leave me standing here now, without a goodbye / And maybe I am the fool you call me, ‘cause I’ll be here standing waiting, to hear you say to me / I’m ready to love you forever, hey love now, come love me forever more…
Next we have this Carlos-and Henry-coded declaration of devotion:
I need for you to love me, hold me, touch me down deep in my soul, never let it go, ‘cause the love we share, no one compares to you, I’ll never let you go…
(Sidenote: if you want an abridged version of what makes me love this song so much, head to the fourwashington instagram and watch their very first pinned reel. Magical.)
Had to edit to add a love letter to the Henry narrative, courtesy of this throwback:
Times when I write late at night, in my room the candle burns, and the paper mirrors my choice of words / Every time I close my eyes, and the world ain’t on my side, and I’m sure that I can’t change a thing, then the sweetest man arrives / In my life, I am living out my dreams, ‘cause you give me what I need / You’re the only air I breathe, you’re the only one I can count on…
And finally we have my favorite Gladys of all time, which was the running theme for the to build a home wedding:
In this life, I've tried so many ways to fill my soul / In this life, I looked for someone else to make me whole / Every time I reached out for love, and I thought my star was rising, I wound up realizing, I couldn't get it right, in this life / Then you came to me, and gave your kind of giving / And you helped me find my own humanity / You opened up your heart, and showed me how to live by loving me, oh you made me see...
Yeah, I literally cry every time I hear this song.
What off-the-beaten-path selections are on your soundtrack for our boys?
