Pearl Ships Sculptures by Ann Carrington
Entitled “Galleons and Feathers,” Ann Carrington‘s passion for collecting vintage knick knacks and old pearl necklaces from junk shops aided her creation of her majestic galleons. After watching a documentary about a Chinese pearl jewelry, Carrington decided to construct her project in the Spring of 2014, once she acquired enough pearls.
To begin the sculpture, she weaved bracelets, bangles brooches, tiaras, and other ornate jewelry pieces on a metal structure to accentuate the shape of the ships, which sit on an opulent and glamorous sea of pearls. Called White Cloud City and Wing Wo Wave, the ships are named after two pearl factories in China.
[ID: several detail and complete photos of a ship made entirely out of white or cream pearls and pearl necklaces, sitting on something wave-like, likewise made of pearls. /end ID].

For all those seafaring adventurers.

Just be sure to remember, guys, that the Points of Sail graphic (that one that looks like a circle) depicts the wind dynamic for a fore-and-aft sail plan (sails set along the line of the keel) and NOT for a square rigged boat (sails perpendicular to the keel) . The points of sail for a square rig look like this:
(In this graphic the wind is coming from the bottom right corner, whereas in the fore-and-aft one it’s coming from the top. Sorry if that’s confusing.)
The two styles of boats interact with the wind in fundamentally different ways: with a fore-and-aft rig, the wind pushes against the sails sideways, and the keel underneath the boat pushes against the water in the opposite direction. The two opposing sideways forces cancel out and translate into forward motion: think of squeezing a watermelon seed between your fingers. This is what allows these boats to sail so much closer to the wind: the wind doesn’t need to be pushing forward on the sail for the boat to sail forward. With a square-rigged boat, you’re relying on the wind pushing forward on the sails for your power. It’s a game of how much area you can present to the wind, and in order to sail in a different direction than where the wind is blowing, the sails must be angled to remain perpendicular to the wind. This limits the directions in which a square-rigged boat can sail, which is why the points of sail look so different.
Can I offer you a nice mole in these trying times?
Why you hold it like that? My animal care training is screaming, you're meant to support the backside otherwise it hurts their back side and may kill them cause of neck strain, this it the case with pretty much every single animal in existence.
Mole bite stick. Mole not let go.

can we appreciate the fact that Harry never made fun of Ginny for being obsessed with him and was always so kind to her
Honestly, Harry was like Ginny’ catch-22. All of her brother’s teased her. She grew up surrounded by loud, (with the exception of Percy), obnoxious brothers who either had no time for her, or just took the piss. (Bill being the possible exception, but he left home when she was still quite young.) Then comes along Harry, and she has an obvious crush on him, and he never pokes fun at her, ever, and he always makes time for her, and actively tries to talk to her.
- He asks her if she’s going to Hogwarts this year, (even though he knows that she is,) just to try and talk to her.
- She places her elbow in the butter dish, and he pretends it never happened.
- We never see him brush her away, even if he might not choose to confide in her.
- He gives her brand-new textbooks, because he knows she’s upset, although she didn’t complain, that she’s getting second-hand books and robes for school.
- He NEVER comments on anything she does that would be embarrassing to her. It never happens, not when she blushes, or stammers, of stumbles. NEVER.
For a girl with SIX older brothers, who take the mickey and/or have no time for her, this is like a fantasy. He’s someone she can be safe with. She has a crush on him, and because he takes that so well, she can’t ever get over her crush, because he’s just. so. nice. which makes her crush even harder, and so she blushes even more, and Harry keeps being good about it, and what can she do? The more she gets to know him, the harder she likes him, and he never humiliates her for it, and there is literally no escape for poor Ginny Weasley anymore. She is doomed. It’s a deadly cycle and Harry is her Catch-22.
