I just think it’s funny that i’m only a few chapters in but the fact that Battista made Mo’s clothes is mentioned several times.
this is how big I headcanon Mortimer to be and it’ll never not be slightly funny
“But then came the screams. The groans. The blood. His own heartbeat, loud and much too fast. Striking and thrusting, pulling his sword out of the bodies of strangers, the blood of strangers wet on his clothes, faces distorted by hatred—or was it fear?”

just some casual soulmate telepathy, nothing to see here
#now look #it’s very tempting to call the prince tiny #but that would be unfair #because it’s mo who’s the freak here #lets keep things honest (via @schleierkauz)
useless fact, a while back I had the Prince on the taller side in the extensive Inkworld height chart in my head (bigger than Dustfinger) but I changed my mind after a couple messages discussing heights - smol Prince ftw. So now he’s shorter than Dustfinger and Dustfinger’s a bit tall, as a tribute to Paul Bettany. But like, the Prince is probably well within average and not tiny, haha.
I go by 20~23cm for an average human head length, and I have the Prince at 174cm which puts Mo at about 195 in any fanart I’ve made of them together. I’ve always wondered if he’s really that giant… but then I remember that he sees the Prince’s bear and is literally like “huh, cool bear but it’s kinda small”
You're right, omg😂😂😂 (could be larger🤣)
yeah im not done with inkheart and yeah, i did spend the entire first half of inkspell ugly-crying
one of my favourite things about the Inkheart trilogy is that it’s the opposite of a “chosen one” story, the heroes fell into this adventure by complete accident and most of the things that happen to them are purely by coincidence
like, imagine telling pre-Inkheart Dustfinger that he’d be instrumental in saving his land and defeating dudes like the Piper and the Adderhead, all because some random guy in a parallel world bought a box full of used books and Inkheart happened to be in there
love realizing some dynamics u loved as a kid could simply be solved as an ot3
… and the Black Prince went to the Bluejay’s side and felt that the words were like a shield for them, the words sung quietly up and down the country… all about the White Hand and the Black Hand of Justice.
I feel like this role of Goran’s gives of Mo vibes???
one aspect of Mo/Bluejay I find particularly interesting is his extreme sense of idealism, which basically fully explains his behaviour in Inkdeath and is the core of his character there
I think he’s so idealistic that “big picture” evil like the Adderhead and Piper being tyrants and abusing the weak triggers him more than, say, anything Capricorn or Mortola did to him and his family (even though all that was pretty fucking horrible too). the things he gets angry about tend to be abstract, broad injustices. he’s also so idealistic that he’s truly putting the greater good before everything else, including what’s best for the people he cares about.
consider his deal with Death – he bargained with his daughter’s life so that he could return to defeat the Adderhead, even though he’d die for for Meggie and would be pretty okay with staying dead anyway, even though his odds of success were terrible, even though he’d already secured a way for his family to get back home. he’s willing to risk his beloved kid dying to Do The Right Thing.
Mo feels atypical compared to a lot of other “idealist hero” types and it’s cool. He’s not naive, he’s jaded and knows exactly what’s required to fight villains, and he’s still so rigidly committed to that fight that his actions can actually come off as detached or aloof. it’s distinct from the “I’ll never kill, everyone deserves mercy, I’m a shining beacon of pure goodness” type thing imo. it almost gets twisted into a kind of character flaw with him.
also, if Mo’s an idealist Resa’s more pragmatic and realistic – she has the ability to go “I like the Inkworld a lot too but c’mon dude let’s get out of here before we all die horribly”. I love that she runs on reason over emotion/instinct compared to Mo. we have a wildly sentimental and passionate wreck of a dude paired with a coolheaded rational lady who has her shit together and I think it’s awesome
hello I still can’t get over how Dustfinger and Mo of all people got magically/spiritually bonded FOREVER by death, and can feel each other’s souls and stuff
remember when Dustfinger is like “fuck you Orpheus I like Silvertongue’s voice much better than yours”
or when they talk about private White Women things they hadn’t discussed with literally anyone else before
or when they go and decide to sleep under the stars on a castle rooftop, just the two of them (before an almost-suicide mission for Death itself)
also how Dustfinger makes badass fire bluejays
also when Mo thought Dustfinger died again he was like “I just wanna lie down and stop breathing too”
or when Dustfinger was totally prepared to stay in the castle to find and destroy the White Book himself because it’s “not safe” for Mo
or the fact that they can, like, read each other’s minds and practically finish each other’s sentences
where do these guys even go from there
I just think it’s funny that i’m only a few chapters in but the fact that Battista made Mo’s clothes is mentioned several times.
Some chart i did because I'm bored
Uhm
