Mario Mandžukić being a soft smol bean and giving me feels again

I was reading an interview with Zlatko Dalić before and this is what he said about Mario retiring from the nt:

“He called me one night and we had a friendly talk. Then, the next morning he called me again and I was like: “Why is he calling me again? We just talked last night.” He called again to tell me he is going to retire. That brave, strong figther, couldn’t tell me the real reason why he was calling me, so he needed to call me again next morning. And after the phone call, he even sent me a message adding all the nice and kind things he couldn’t say.“

This broke me. He is such a sweet, pure soul. I will never get over this. He couldn’t tell his coach why he was really calling him. He needed another day. I’m in tears. Don’t ever tell me this was an easy decision to make. I will miss him forever.

It’s more than just a sport. It’s more than just a team. It’s family. It’s home. Presenting your national team, your country, will always be more important than anything else, than any club. I’m so proud of all of them and I love them with all my heart.
