For Celegorm’s day of @feanorianweek — a new chapter of my Celegorm-focused fic: Sons and Revenants.

Word count: 27,750 (so far) Pairing(s): Thranduil/Celegorm Characters: Thranduil, Celegorm, (little) Legolas, Oropher, minor OCs, possibly more to come... Warnings: Canon-typical violence, implied nudity.

Summary: A mystery has come to the Greenwood: something—or someone—is slaying the great spiders with mad abandon. Thranduil is not sorry to see the creatures slain, but he must learn what force is responsible and keep it in check. For the spiders are vengeful, and the safety of his people comes first.

What Thranduil does not expect is that the identity of the killer will not only alter the very future of the Greenwood, but his own life, and that of his young son.

In this chapter, as Thranduil confronts the identity of the stranger, the mystery of his appearance deepens, even as it grows clearer—and there is no denying the danger he presents.

Title: Creative Fires (Chapter 5: Deep Caverns) Word count: 22,935 so far Pairing: Melkor/Mairon Characters: Melkor, Mairon, Curumo, Aulë, Eönwë, Manwë Warnings: None, other than Melkor causing problems

Summary: Mairon has always been loyal to Aulë. He prides himself on behaving with the utmost propriety. He rarely makes errors, in his work or otherwise.

When Curumo asks for his assistance in solving a problem without Aulë’s knowledge, Mairon sees no harm in helping him.Yet Mairon faltered once in the past, and he is about to make another mistake. When they encounter Melkor, the consequences seem small at first, but they will increase a thousandfold.

A story about artistic expression and bad choices.

Notes: I made a big change in my outline, and I had to go back and edit the entire story. It is now set during the First War with Melkor, before the Years of the Lamps.

Title: To the Broken Ones, chapter 2 Word count: 9,931 Pairing: Fingon/Durin’s Bane (Balrog of Moria) Summary: How Fingon survived the Nirnaeth Arnoediad, in spite of accounts to the contrary. Warnings: Violence, war, death, blood, drinking blood, Angband, Sauron.

Note: Another chapter for this odd pairing. In time for Valentine’s Day, a story in which even Balrogs can feel love. (Also, there is a reason this is Durin’s Bane rather than any other random Balrog.)

(I was really bitten by the fic bug recently; it happens sometimes.)

Title: Sons and Revenants (Chapter 5) Word count: 22,108 Pairing: Thranduil/Celegorm Rating: General Audiences Warnings: canon-typical violence and references to: death, war, trauma, canon character deaths.

Summary: A mystery has come to the Greenwood: something—or someone—is slaying the great spiders with mad abandon. Thranduil is not sorry to see the creatures slain, but he must learn what force is responsible and keep it in check. For the spiders are vengeful, and the safety of his people comes first.

In this chapter, the mystery of the stranger’s seems to have been solved, but the revelation only leads to greater difficulties.

Title: To the Broken Ones, Chapter 1/? Fandom: Tolkien Legendarium Pairing: Fingon/Durin’s Bane Word count: 5,322 Warnings: canon-typical violence, imprisonment, injury

Summary: Fingon survives the Nírnaeth Arnoediad, through the intervention of an unlikely savior. He finds himself in the clutches of the Enemy—but he does not find himself alone.

Notes: I know this is an odd idea, but I was interested in the idea of an Elf-Balrog duo, and I also wanted to flesh out Durin’s Bane and give him a name, backstory, etc. So I couldn’t resist.

[Fic] Creative Fires, Chapter Four

Fandom: The Silmarillion Word Count: 18,000 (so far) Pairing: Melkor/Mairon Characters: Mairon, Melkor, Aulë, Curumo, Eönwë, Manwë Warnings: N/A, other than general Melkorisms

Summary: Mairon has always been loyal to Aulë. He prides himself on behaving with the utmost propriety. He rarely makes errors, in his work or otherwise. When Curumo asks for his assistance in solving a problem without Aulë's knowledge, Mairon sees no harm in helping him.

A story about artistic expression and bad choices.

Notes: I finally drew a header illustration for this fic! Now that it’s four chapters long, which is longer than it was initially supposed to be.

Title: Sons and Revenants (Chapter One) Pairing: Thranduil/??? (M/M) Characters: Thranduil, Baby Legolas, Mystery Elf Word count: 3,229 Warnings: N/A

Summary: A mystery has come to the Greenwood: something—or someone—is slaying the great spiders with mad abandon. Thranduil is not sorry to see the creatures slain, but he must learn what power is responsible and keep it in check. For the spiders are vengeful, and the safety of his people comes before all other concerns.

The secret he unearths is the last thing he expects. The identity of the killer will not only transform the future of the Greenwood, but the lives of Thranduil and his young son.

Notes: Just for fun, I am holding off on tagging the mystery Elf until his identity is revealed in the story itself, in another chapter or two. However, there are a few clues in the narrative (and if you know me well enough, you might be able to figure it out). As soon as Thranduil realizes who it is, I will add the relevant tags! I’ve been wanting to write a story about Thranduil for a while, since he’s one of my all-time favorite characters.

Title: Fates of the Bloodstained (chapter 2/3) Characters: Gwindor, Túrin, Beleg, Anglachel  Pairing(s): Mostly gen; strong references to Túrin/Beleg and Gwindor/Finduilas Word count: 6165 Warning(s): Reference to self-harm, canon-typical violence, canon character death, general weirdness and misery.

Summary: Gwindor of Nargothrond learned years ago that his fate was to be a sorrowful one, but now it is entangled with a new kind of misfortune: Túrin. While leading the Man on their long journey to the Pools of Ivrin, Gwindor faces a future more desolate and strange than any he could have imagined.

Notes: Gwindor’s memories of the Mereth Aderthad are inspired by @houndsofvalinor-art‘s Tolkien Secret Santa gift to me. I was so inspired by it, that I wanted to include it somehow. You can see the art here.

The fic title is (obviously) based on Túrin’s aliases.

A New Year’s fic about enduring a difficult ordeal. Currently editing part two.

Word Count:14,840 Pairing: Annatar/Celebrimbor Rating: Teen+ Warnings: Canon-typical violence, manipulation, character death

Summary: When Annatar is summarily dismissed by the Elves of Lindon, he is unsure of the welcome he will receive in Eregion. What he discovers there achieves the rare feat of surprising him—and will be of great use to him, if he is cunning and careful.

When Annatar arrives at the gates of Celebrimbor's city, Celebrimbor allows him in. Elves know to be wary of strangers bearing gifts, but this newcomer brings far more than that—and the Lord of Eregion will be forever altered, unless fate can be kind. For Annatar is not the stranger's true name.

My @officialtolkiensecretsanta gift for @but-what-if-i-fly. I hope you like it! The ink illustrations here are a bonus, and you can read the fic here on AO3.

Tolkien Secret Santa Advent Calendar Day 9: Baking

My contribution to @officialtolkiensecretsanta‘s Advent Calendar. The two watercolors below are illustrations for my fic, which you can read here on AO3 at the following link:

Rating: Gen Word Count: 3038

Summary: Mairon's lord has finally returned to Middle-earth. There's crucial work to be done, but Mairon is equal to the task. All it takes is heat, the power of a Maia, and the great skill he undeniably has… to make his Lord a gift—and help Melkor extricate himself from the new dilemma he's saddled himself with.

A little wholesome Dark Lord content, if you consider wholesome a relative term in this context.

Title: Song for Elbereth (Chapter 2 of 2) Word count: 7,257 (for the entire fic) Warnings: Nothing major, just implied canonical death.

Summary: The Bad Elves, the strange invaders, left Eluréd and Elurín alone in the middle of a dark wood. Night is falling, and danger surrounds them. Eluréd, the elder, believes it's his responsibility to protect his younger twin, no matter how hopeless things seem. Elurín has his own ideas about hope—and how they can find safety.

Written for @doriathweek, but it took me longer than expected to finish part two. I went back and made some minor changes to part one as well.

First Line Meme

Rules: post the first line of a WIP and then tag as many people as there are words.

Ignoring the rules (as my inspiration @pandirpus did), I am posting five first lines. [All subject to change during editing.]

  • Mairon knew the danger he was in.
  • Every new green leaf unfurling held the promise of future days of flowers.
  • Prolonged and tedious, the passing time had no visible divisions, as the light of the Sun and Moon did not reach these Halls.
  • The northern sea bristled with ice.
  • As the final notes of his song faded away, Maglor glanced up from his harp with a smile, meeting his father's bright gaze.

Anyone with WIPs can consider themselves tagged! I’d like to see your line(s).

Long Are the Waves for @tolkienrsb 2020

written by @foxleycrow // art by @mallornblossom

Rating: General Audience Warnings: No Archive Warnings Characters: Elrond, Maglor, Elros, Maedhros Word Count: 23146

Elrond has his own, strange quest to embark upon before leaving Middle-earth. He has not seen his foster father in thousands of years. Though Maglor is said to wander by the sea, no one has heard any news of him in an Age.
Elrond does not seek to find or destroy any object, powerful or otherwise. What he wants is both more simple and more complex: to take his father with him, or wish him farewell. He does not know if Maglor can be found, but that will not stop him from making the attempt. The lonely shores call to him, and so does a song in the distance…

I was honored to write this piece based on @mallornblossom‘s beautiful art. A story about Elrond coming to terms with his complicated relationship with his foster father.
